Don’t care. My love of the Hawks is fierce and loyal and no logic will win me over. Nothing will erase my memory of him ******* over the 2013 premiership victory. Unlike those suffering through rose colored memories I will never forget that he plotted to go to the opposition the moment we lost the 2012 flag to the Swans. If others choose to overlook this - good for you. Not me. Does this make me salty? You bet. But you won’t change me. Certain things are constant. I love Lethal. I love Dermie. I love Dipper. I love guts and loyalty. I hate turn coats. I despise Franklin like a jilted lover or an abondoned child resents his absconding father. This is footy. This is tribal. This is not logic.
Dermot "turncoated" you idiot. I was also at a game in Sydney late 2013 with a Swans supporting mate who lamented Buddy didn't break a leg after he was the winning difference for the Hawks. Don't be a Tool

Who cares what he was wearing, he was there supporting someone he obviously cares for and has been a father figure to. They have a bond.

It still amazes me how salty some Hawks fans can be regarding Buddy. If his best mates - premiership teammates no less - and the coach were able to accept and understand his decision then so can we.

This is the human element of the game coming through.

Yep. Clubs most successful coach was in a motivational crisis, they showed him the door.

Dermie did not turncoat
He was virtually pushed out the door, along with a few others, due to Hawthorn’s poor handling of it’s salary cap

Idiot

He was shown the door because of the direction we had been heading under his watch. He was being too stubborn, had a game style that was outdated by a few years and his top-up plan was a failure.

You have proven to be a true Hawks historian. Well played. Dermott plotted his departure straight after we lost a heartbreaking grand final, didn’t he? Your analogy is pure…. not. Imagine if Derm went to Essenscum the year after we lost to the them in 84. Derm left only after being pushed out and disrespected by the club. Massive difference between him and Judas

He was offered a $180k salary including incentives, which was what he ended up getting paid at Collingwood as a base salary. Derm is on the record saying this. The turncoat was in inverted commas for a reason. He was offered a more reliable contract as an injured in player at another club and is still a Hawthorn legend.
Do you understand nuance?

Yep and no one remembers such as Brad Sewell who had offers after delisting, but wanted to be a one club player

Nah mate. Clarko in swines gear is hard to absorb. Wild scenes here at the SCG - buddy a legend. Would you wear swines kit? We can celebrate human emotions I agree. My emotions are sad to see clarko in red and white after all those years of barking mad hawks loyalty.

Derm was offered a contract at Hawthorn but chose not to accept it in favour of a more reliable contract at Collingwood. He is still a hawks legend, just like Budd is

He was offered $7000 base, $1500 a game and bonuses that could take him up to $175,000, which he would receive the bonuses if he hit the 18 game milestone, 20 game milestone, 22 game milestone..... in a season that had only 20 games. Look up his open mike episode on YouTube and you can hear all about it.

Yes you are the true expert of nuance. It wasn’t just money Nuance boy. It was also the way Dermie was getting shabbily treated by Alan Joyce. I remember in 1993, Dermie - a 5 time premiership player no less, was kicking 5 goals a week in the reserves and Joyce wouldn’t pick him. But of course you, as a true historian/Hawks fan/expert on nuance, must remember this fact. Spare me the abuse by the way, it’s ridiculously misplaced coming from a person as ignorant as you.

So why did Derm play a season at Sydney before going to Collingwood?

There are parts of the story that are missing.

Agree. It's just a shame how it played out at the time and what an under-handed snake Pickering was. But yes time heals all wounds.

Clarko probably worked from 7am to 7pm on average at least, including many many late nights scheming about footy for 15 years straight. I don’t care what scarf he wears, still a legend

You know he went to Sydney before Collingwood yeah?

Do yourself a favour and watch his “Open Mike” with Mike Sheehan

Agreed he’s a legend, but crikey it’s not easy on the eye seeing our former messiah in the red and shite.
