Well done buddy on 1,000 goals!

Here is a great article which takes a look at the unique nature of buddy’s goal kicking and what made him stand out among his peers. Very interesting statistical analysis.

That was a great read, thanks for sharing.

A great point that’s brought up in that article which I haven’t thought about before is Buddy’s ability to score from distance and it partly being a reason why he was able to reach 1000 goals in the modern game. We all talk about him being an outlier in history but it’s great to see it represented in data as to why he’s an outlier.

Not to get too swept up in it all but I genuinely think you could make a case for him to be the GOAT.

He missed nearly a whole season of football - the reality is he could of been even higher up that ladder.

It doesn’t matter what you think of the person - it’s the action itself. It doesn’t matter who the player is - it’s one hell of an achievement and that in itself should be celebrated.

I don’t know if we will ever see another player kick a 1000 goals or even get close

He's up there with the greats, but I don't think he is GOAT. Ablett Snr is GOAT for me. People forget he really only played as a permanent full forward from 1993, in his 30s and he was incredible. Had he been full forward from day 1, he would easily have the record for most goals.

Not in the slightest bit proud or respectful of Franklin. Zero respect for a selfish self interested mercenary. Zero love. I welcome all recriminations and cancellations but he shall forever remain a Judas. Nope. Nothing. Not even a note of care. Zero respect. Dead to me.

How do you feel about Hodge playing for Brisbane after 'retiring'?

Don't get caught up on this stuff, people move on from Hawthorn, it's apart of life. Take a deep breath and just take a moment to recognise how lucky we've been to have Buddy, one of the greatest to ever play the game, be apart of our wonderful club.

Crazy that Sydney have twice landed a player who then kicked their 1,000th goals with them and both players could very well net them zero flags.

Don't think they care tbh. Both were box office for them and got people talking/watching the game in a traditional non-footy state. They played the long game with Buddy.

I get the other benefits and motives - but clubs absolutely care about winning flags.

He was playing full forward well before that. Even played there in the 89 GF.

Agreed though, if he'd played FF his entire career he would have kicked the most, probably 1,500 goals.

If Buddy had kicked straighter he would have passed the 1,000 a year or so ago.

Laughable that people are talking about the goat, when one bloke scored 915 goals averaged 5 shots at goal a game playing primarily as a midfielder.

There's arguments on a lot of players.

Dunstall would have had 1500+ goals if he'd been more selfish

Ablett could have more if he'd spent more as a deep forward

If Franklin learnt to kick, he'd have an extra 300 (nearly 800 behinds)

Agree with this. My expertise is crowd control and watching the field invasion filled me with horror. The lack of responsibility from the SCG and the AFL was staggering. The potential for injury was far above any reasonable risk level. They were lucky, thank the stars.
luckily most people seemed way more interested in getting a good video for their Instagram story than anything else.

Also not sure if it's been mentioned, the fact it was at a 'smaller', more sort of boxed-in ground than say the 'G made it harder to get him off the ground. You imagine it happening at the 'G it would've been easier I think. Although perhaps a larger crowd, so...

He’s kicked over 700 behinds too. If his average was a little higher, he might have hit the 1000 some time ago.

Article is about forwards. That is what they are responding too.
It might surprise you to know that pretty much all 915 goals were kicked from the forward line.
