True, it's early days but it looks like the good sides are Melbourne, Brisbane, Geelong, Sydney, Dogs and maybe Freo and Carlton. We've played one of them so far, we were probably a bit lucky against the Dockers that they didn't have Taberner playing.

We still have to play Geelong twice, Sydney twice and Brisbane twice as well as Melbourne and the Dogs, that's a lot of tough match-ups without also counting Adelaide away which will also be a hard game.

The more games we can bank now the better, another win here would be absolute gold.
The team has improvement in it , adding Jones , Billings and Clark will give us a few more possessions every game and King , Gresham and Membery are only just getting warmed up.

"Ben, I know you reinvented yourself, but for the team, take your guitar with you and beat the everloving crap out of Toby please. We'll pay the 4 weeks, Rushy has this."
Send Long out with instructions to annoy the hell out of Greene until he snaps …

… or distract him by drawing him into discussion about rules which are only enforced against players named Greene and Long …

I'll be heading over to Canberra for this one. Can't wait.

Giants are struggling but I think they could come out breathing fire after a woeful performance last night.

Hopefully Jones pulls up alright and puts his hand up. A 6 day break with not a lot of training behind him and a history of hamstring issues has me worried though.

Webster comes straight back in.

Windy the obvious one to come back after a couple of games

Lienart and Wood probably the other two that could be in trouble
I am driving to Canberra for this match . So I hope we win.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Webster play on Greene. He did some great jobs on small forwards last year.

I need to remember to reply to this thread early. I completely missed the preview for the last game cause I just never got around to replying and therefore missed all the notifications. Peaceful week though

Nah, just stalk him, when it appears he's going to pick it up, there's Long's hip in his face.

Then chat to him about how the ruling means Toby is getting screwed for tunnelling and Long is getting screwed because Toby is a small bastard that accentuated contact. Get it all on umpire mic sicne Toby will be pissed, concussed and indict himself more than likely.

Then Rushy will actually have it instead of pissing into the wind.

Bring in Geary, get him to pick up Toby and throw him at an umpire when no-one is looking.
Then he falls down and claims Toby hit him in the head before he exploded. Concussion.
Then bring on sub.

Everything is set up for a classic St Kilda loss here. GWS get two very important players back in Greene and Pruess, while we're still missing Ryder, Jones, Billings and Clark.

We tend to shit the bed during primetime and also whenever any there's any expectation of a strong performance against a struggling team.

If we can get over the line here then we can genuinely get excited about playing finals and a competitive 2022 season. If we lose then we're back to more of the same.

Watching GWS against Melbourne I thought the were very ordinary & very beatable.
They get Toby Green back this week, hopefully he is not match fit & runs out of steam.
Thought I’d check on AFL tables to see how he stacks up against St Kilda, if he kicked straight (under pressure?)
he would average 2.18 goals a match.
The biggest surprise is his 1% ers against all opposition, so shut him down & they are still an ordinary team.
Play the way we have been & can see us over run them and win comfortably.

Confident.

It's more about the way we're playing than the fact we've won a few. There might be some bumps in the road but I think the direction we're heading will see us through the year well.

In the past I'd be nervous about this game but we seem solid. Faith is growing.

Saints by 30.

I agree completely, I have faith in this team and as you say we have improvement in us.

The point I'm making is we've got a bloody hard draw (surprise surprise) and we have just gotten through what looked like the easiest part of it.

Compare our double ups to Carlton, they play Adelaide, GWS, Richmond, Freo and Collingwood twice. We are going to have to play a lot better than them to make the finals.

4-1 is fantastic but we were 4-1 in 2019, the wheels can fall off very easily. Good news is we're playing as a team and will welcome a few guns back over the coming weeks, and the competition looks quite even and you feel we can beat almost anyone on our day. But if we lost the next two and got to 4-3 with games against Dees and Cats the season could go pear shaped.

Easy solution to that though, kick Giant butt this Friday night

Webster first crack. But Greene is one player and one player wont be the difference.

Team defence will win this one. And at the moment we are playing with decent team defence across the park.

How will they hold Kingy, Butler, Higgins, Membrey, Long etc.

Mids crack this one open.

Huge opportunity here and while Greene coming back is big for them, we still have the game plan and player to beat them.

The past few games, they have been really susceptible to fast, outside ball movement which is something we are good at. They have a lot of good inside mids but that does leave them vulnerable on the outside. I expect them to tag Steele so Crouch, Ross and Gresham will need to step up and dominate.

They have also given up big runs of goals the past few weeks and given we have shown we can get on our own run, this is another area we can exploit them.

Webster to come back in. Long played well down back but Lienert has been solid since getting into the side. Maybe Windhager out and we move a few around to keep both Long and Lienert in?

Yeah if there's no Jones back, I'd go Webster for Windhager and Long returns to the forwardline. He looked great there against Richmond and Hawthorn. We're still a bit low on forward 50 pressure when it's mainly just Butler applying it.

They seem to be very disjointed as a team at the moment, whereas we are the opposite very connected.

I think the change will be Webster for Windy and Long forward again.

He's one player that sets the energy and tone for how they play though. Toby is one of those guys that is the obvious MVP in a talented side. A bit like peak Robbie Gray he can impact outcomes when they need him. They are shit when he doesn't play so if we can stop him hopefully he doesn't energise them.

Giants have struggled to score this year

They often win the possession count and inside 50 count but their efficiency inside 50 is poor.

They don't have a huge amount of fire power forward

If we can shut down Himleburg and keep Greene quiet they have very little left after that to kick a score

Saints on the other hand already have 5 players that have managed to kick at least one bag of 4

Match then in the middle and we should win

Brad Crouch equal second in the league for tackles.

Jack Steele equal fifth.

One tackle separating them. Most of the other players in that top 10 belong to the bottom sides and thus get more opportunity for tackles - e.g. Hugh Greenwood at North.

To have Crouch and Steele racking up tackles in a dominant side is a very good sign imo. Pressure in our game needs to be kept to a high level. And it helps out our defence around the ground.

Interested to hear everyone's thoughts on Paton? With Webster coming back in, I'd be leaning towards giving Paton some time at Sandy.
He's probably been the worst of our back six, and we have versatility with Lienarts ability to use the footy and defend.
His best was incredible a couple of years ago, but he seems to be struggling getting up to speed. Typically I'd persist with him, but we have legit competition for spots now.

Thought the same thing after the game, seems to be out of sorts.

On paper we actually look incredibly strong with current form, only our backline looks shaky but collectively they have done a respectful job this season in getting the ball to ground and shovelling it out for clearing kicks. We shouldn't let gws into this game, with our mids flying at the moment I'm not overly concerned.
