Heard 12 months ago from someone that was in his class at school he is 100% coming - he would talk about ‘when I go back to QLD’ as if it was just the plan etc.

Grew up in QLD until 2 years ago, training with us, playing with VFL side. He is especially driven, he would have watched Bailey, Starc, Rayner, Clugg, Coleman etc yesterday and just thought ‘I’ll 100% get the best out of myself at the Lions in their system’.

Also was at the Dogs Preseason game and the Dons Marvel game.

Fagan will play him round 1, there’s a spot in the midfield.

Gets to skip all the draft lead up and anxiety about where he lands.

That article sent everyone into a spin, reading between the lines it just looked like a half assed attempt to pretend their was a decision to be made, subsequent comments looked favourable to us.

Like TBD said, it makes us potentially offer a draft contract extension and it keeps us guessing and working for him and his manager in the lead up, there is no point declaring it now.

He said ‘Melbourne is home and much as QLD is’ - ‘not Melbourne is home’.

I just can’t see him not nominating.
I'm sure he would like to see himself some time in the future as the recipient of the Marcus Ashcroft medal after tearing the Suns a new one

The replays of the games are up on the NAB league app now. Haven’t been able to watch the games but skipped forward to watch the goals of both Ashcroft and Fletcher, very impressive. Jaspa’s first was straight out of centre clearance running to about 50 and putting it through. Ashcroft’s was in open play but was a clean pick up, burst of speed to get away then kicking from about 45m. Both kids look really classy.

I know a lot on here believe we are in our window now and need to win a premiership in the next couple years whilst the likes of Neale, Daniher, Cameron, Adams, Big O, Lyons, McCarthy ect. are in their prime and Zorko and Rich are still playing well, and I definitely agree. I must say, however, the thought of adding Ashcroft to the likes of McCluggage, Bailey, Rayner, Starcevich and Kiddy with Andrews and Hipwood playing at either end and promising young talent like Payne, Dev, Sharp, Wilmot and Lohmann in the reserves still has me very excited about our future as well.

Fletcher and perhaps Bradshaw Jr. will be nice additions as well.

Is there tho? We have been trying to get Dev in there and there hasn't been a spot. Which midfielder gets axed for Will?

Yeah as mentioned above, the Cocky/Lohmann role seems to be in excess when you have Bailey, Rayner, Ahchee in the team as well. Ashcroft is straight in, there is no doubt. We only have 3 genuine mids, 1 of which is Berry, there is plenty of room for another.

PS - I’d rather Dev in than that extra impact/hybrid mid type too, we are a mid short IMO.

I’m starting to see Jaspa as more of a first round chance at this point. Just has such a good ability to step through traffic, make the game slow down and use the ball really nicely, has a monster boot on him as well. Contested game is probably his weakness but he’s been playing as an outside type runner, he’s shown toughness with his tackling and he’s had a couple real nice breakaway clearances that I’ve seen. Easy to project him as a smooth moving ball user with a high upside.

It’s possible, if we don’t see many more mids come through from Vic, WA and SA.

I remember Shifter Sheehan’s comments draft night last year when we took Darcy Wilmot (born 31 December). Reckons if born 1 day later probably a top 5 pick in this year’s draft.

On another occasion Shifter said recruiters really do factor in if a player born late in the year.

Levi Ashcroft born 18 December, so can probably cut him a bit of slack. Still very interested to see how he goes in u16’s National Champs in a couple of months time.

I remember that too. Will be interesting to see how Wilmot develops and if he would be considered a top 5 pick if in this draft (ignoring the better development of being in an AFL system)

Would think we might need to start thinking about trying Robbo in Jared lyons spot our midfield is just too one dimensional with him in there and moving like treacle

Just watching 360 and there was a comment along the Crows getting an amazing free hit by getting Keays as we did Lyons from the GC. Crows will probably get more out of Ben than we will JL but I cant help miss Ben not being at the Lions. Can see why he is so popular as I hear from ppl in Brissie that he is really lovely guy. I miss him but so happy for him all the same .

Ben Keays got more airtime than the whole Lions team. LoL.

They are 2 amazingly good write ups, Ashcroft will be a top 5 pick... don't want Fletcher getting too much fanfare, could move him up into a low teens pick, will make it difficult accumulating enough points, may have to go into deficet next year.

I'm not saying he is wrong but that was probably the 36th bloke he had as a potential top 5 pick.

He is 'enthusiastic' about all prospects.
