Increasingly confident that he is going to be a Lion.

I think his comments a month or so ago were probably suggested by his manager to see what sort of deal they can shake out of the Lions, and fair enough too.

I'm not even sure there was much in his comments. It just seemed like the usual 'I'll be happy just to be drafted' stuff highly rated father-son players always spout.

Lol I could see them trying but they will fail. Will is keen to be a Lion and (speculating) he'd no doubt love to play with Levi in a few years.

Yeah, I'm just kidding. There's seriously no reason not going to come to us. He'll get games, he'll be playing in finals in his first few years and making good coin plus it's the only way he'll be guaranteed to play with his brother.

That’s actually against the rules. First two years must be at draft wages.

Pretty sure Nunez was referring to the old 2 year extension off the bat with a big pay bump.

Plenty of father/son prospects have had contract offers put to them prior to the draft, both by the team with the #1 pick and by their linked club, some of them massive (Tom Mitchell jumps to mind).

Obviously they only kick in for years 3 and on, but the offers still exist.

If he is playing with our VFL side puts us in a great position . Already developing relationships with players and coaching staff making his transition much easier . He can still be the number 1 like we just have to match it . Worst case we go into deficit the following year but if it means you get the cream player the year before should be a price your willing to pay . Realistically way our team is positioned unlikely to have many top 5 picks . By time Neale calls it quits Ashcroft will be primed to take over the mantle similar to what Brayshaw is doing ay freo now .

Want to take them while we can get them. Won’t be seeing to many top picks when Tasmania come in competition in 5 years, and we have a couple of compromised drafts.

Compromised drafts coming up - so we know when we will be down near the bottom again then? ;)

Currently not projected that high.
Anyone's projections of 2024 draftees are worth about as much as yesterday's newspaper.

Heard 12 months ago from someone that was in his class at school he is 100% coming - he would talk about ‘when I go back to QLD’ as if it was just the plan etc.

Grew up in QLD until 2 years ago, training with us, playing with VFL side. He is especially driven, he would have watched Bailey, Starc, Rayner, Clugg, Coleman etc yesterday and just thought ‘I’ll 100% get the best out of myself at the Lions in their system’.

Also was at the Dogs Preseason game and the Dons Marvel game.

Fagan will play him round 1, there’s a spot in the midfield.

Gets to skip all the draft lead up and anxiety about where he lands.

That article sent everyone into a spin, reading between the lines it just looked like a half assed attempt to pretend their was a decision to be made, subsequent comments looked favourable to us.

Like TBD said, it makes us potentially offer a draft contract extension and it keeps us guessing and working for him and his manager in the lead up, there is no point declaring it now.

He said ‘Melbourne is home and much as QLD is’ - ‘not Melbourne is home’.

I just can’t see him not nominating.

I'm sure he would like to see himself some time in the future as the recipient of the Marcus Ashcroft medal after tearing the Suns a new one

The replays of the games are up on the NAB league app now. Haven’t been able to watch the games but skipped forward to watch the goals of both Ashcroft and Fletcher, very impressive. Jaspa’s first was straight out of centre clearance running to about 50 and putting it through. Ashcroft’s was in open play but was a clean pick up, burst of speed to get away then kicking from about 45m. Both kids look really classy.
