I really like this kid and hope he makes it, has great hands, elite goal sense, and forward-craft, (in that he not only knows where the goals are, he knows where to put himself to get on the end of it) he is an accurate kick, and he is more than handy when the ball hits the deck. He likes to work in space as opposed to in tight and he is going to have to work on that. His biggest drawback at the moment seems to be himself, nerves, settling into a game. I've seen him early in games, dropping marks he'd normally swallow blindfolded and getting angry with himself, fumbling the ball when he is normally sure-handed, etc. If he can get on top of this he could be anything and I am certainly hoping he can. A bag in the VFL will definitely help give him confidence and belief.

I think you nailed it. Get his confidence up and get him to start dealing with his errors rather than dwelling on them and he'll be very good.

… he is more than handy when the ball hits the deck.
Is he though? I’ve seen nothing to suggest he’s even league average in this area.

I declare Ollie to be my Shoe In of the Week!

Didn't see the VFL this week, but question re: ollies attack on the ball & man.

Was he hesitant? or was his intensity up?

Not fussed about the 7 goals (yes great for confidence), more looking for clean/contested possession and intensity.
So was it an improvement?

I watched the full game and it was his intensity and contested footy, especially in the first half, that I was impressed with. Far more than the goals. Coburg were bloody awful so the goals aren't too surprising. But there were several times where he was outnumbered and made a contest to keep the ball in or even win it himself.

One game is far too small a sample size but it was the most intensity I've seen him play with. Fingers crossed.

I enjoyed his seven goals yesterday, could easily have kicked a couple more, just couldn't quite correct the radar in a particular pocket.

It was extremely pleasing to see the clean hands, anyone that watched his draft year understands what a strength it is for him. Which makes it even more weird watching him struggle early this year with his hands in the AFL.

From memory Oli struggled early last year too with his hands. I expect it is purely a confidence issue he's having which is the complete opposite to how Ginny is performing.

I would prefer Oli in the AFL team rather than out of it.
Oddly enough everyone seemed to struggle with that pocket probably because it seemed to be going different ways with each kick. It was good to see his hands back to his usual exceptional standard. I just hope it translates!

Oli is going to be a special player for CFC for a long time! At 19, I reckon he has already performed better than the clubs expectations...He has plenty of time to develop his game and personally I already think he's good enough to fill a senior spot.
Done better then some players Drafted Before him in:

  • Ugle-Hagan
  • Phillips
  • Hollands
  • Reid
  • Pedlar

The only worry is that he played FF and I'm not sure we can play him FF for a whole game in the seniors, I'd like us to try it though
We tend to play guys like Elliott, JDG there, so I don't think it's an issue - even though he doesn't have the pace or aggression of those guys.

Good result for Henry on week end but we must remember the opposition was below standard.

Still you can only play whatever your opposition is. (Coburg must have had the effect of Lobello skills coaching still embedded from 2020!).

It will be a good test for him if he plays v Richmond. Hopefully he can clunk teh early marks he seems to juggle at the moment.

If he can come through then we may then have two players on our hands with a bit of pizzazz in Ginnivan and Henry. Its been a long time since we did.

and Henry looked a Class Above as you Expected he would

I think his manager would be advising him to hold off. He'll get offered a contract and it's value won't go down, but it may go up if he has a good rest of the year.

Manager be saying wait to Seasons end to get his Value Up
