For mine, Ollie just needs a good block of games in the VFL to get his confidence up, find some consistency and be raring to go and ready for his next opportunity at senior level.
That is what worked for him last year I think.

I have been shocked this year that the sure, sticky hands he showed in the second half of last year seem to have abandoned him. And that he seems a little scared out there.

Still have high hopes for him. Has all the skills to be a very good player.

I enjoyed his seven goals yesterday, could easily have kicked a couple more, just couldn't quite correct the radar in a particular pocket.

It was extremely pleasing to see the clean hands, anyone that watched his draft year understands what a strength it is for him. Which makes it even more weird watching him struggle early this year with his hands in the AFL.

From memory Oli struggled early last year too with his hands. I expect it is purely a confidence issue he's having which is the complete opposite to how Ginny is performing.

I would prefer Oli in the AFL team rather than out of it.

That wind looked super tricky, especially when kicking into it from that particular pocket. You'd back him to slot one or two of those at the G or Marvel.

That aside, it's only application, confidence and experience that hold him back... The ability is self-evident, isn't it? He's an exciting prospect and I'll be relieved if and when he signs an extension.

Given there is a bye in the vfl next week. He needs to come into the AFL team v Richmond. Otherwise the next VFL game isn't for 2 weeks, then another 3 for an afl game

Has kicked 12 goals in the last 3 vfl games
Surely he plays. Can't pick Begg one week and then not reward Ollie's 7 goals and great work rate one week later.

I mentioned in the VFL game thread in the first quarter, that he looked really focused. He worked his backside off to win a two-on-one and tackled hard. If the work rate is there PLUS the finishing, he has to play.

Agreed. He did a lot of 1%ers too. Wasn't just marking and kicking goals.

We will have another few season ending injuries in our forward line by then, he’ll be a shoo-in!

If the coaches believe in his talent and believe he is applying himself… then they should just play him weekly in the seniors like we did with young Maynard, Quaynor,

Yeah there will be quiet weeks along the way, but this kid is just wasting away in the VFL when he could be learning more rapidly in the seniors

He’d gain more from playing Gold Coast today than flogging an ordinary Coburg size on a suburban oval

The trouble is he was offering nothing in some games and you can't carry a player like that unless you are a Melbourne or Brisbane at the moment. He has been a little all or nothing.

Looks like he found the confidence, let's see if he gets another senior opportunity. Early part of the season he had a few "almost" games in the seniors. Let's hope he can bring the focus to delivery consistently at that level!

Not so sure about that. Ollie seems like a confidence player, and yesterday was exactly what he needed to gain back that belief in himself imo. He’ll go back in to the seniors next week knowing he’s too good to be stuck playing VFL and knowing he’s capable of sticking those marks.

Didn't see the VFL this week, but question re: ollies attack on the ball & man.

Was he hesitant? or was his intensity up?

Not fussed about the 7 goals (yes great for confidence), more looking for clean/contested possession and intensity.
So was it an improvement?

I only caught the first half, but he looked to be far more intent on the footy and the man. He won a contest where it was him alone vs 2 or 3 opposition defenders in the first quarter (I think), which I didn't think he would have done previously.

Fly's words about effort being rewarded seem to have lit a fire

He has the best hands on our list bar no one he has a footy brain and just needs the belief in himself not all young players are like Daicos and Gjnnivan.

He actually plays taller than he is and I think we need to extend his contract asap because when he kicks a bags in the seniors which he could do they will definitely be suitors for him.

He drops allot of marks for someone who's hands are best on the list

I can think of only 2 blokes who come close to him for sticky hands 1 is Howe who has been doing it for yrs and the other is Mihocek who took some great grabs yesterday.I still think Henry has the best hands of all though and just needs the confidence and the experience at top level to begin showing it.

2nd year on the list and undersized against most defenders who play on him, I just think he needs 4 or 5 gls one day and then he will be away and very hard to stop I think we have a beauty in Ollie.

Jezza top of the pile then Elliott, Mihocek, - WHE and Moore not far behind - Roughy's pretty hands are pretty safe too - last year Henry looked like he belonged on this list, but they haven't been sticking this year - I think you'll be right in the long run though.

I think IQ is developing a set of very secure hands too
