Can’t believe people are suggesting McCreery goes out. Until there is someone else in the side that is lightning quick and hits like a truck he stays in. Finally a genuine defensive pressure prospect, as opposed to incumbents from years before where defensive pressure was merely code for adequate (not good) at applying pressure and incapable of winning the ball themselves.

He’s a real mixed bag in that role. But 3 possessions and 0 tackles is very poor

In saying that I blame the coaches for letting him wilt there the other night… and not mixing it up and throwing him on ball.

We certainly needed an injection of physicality at the coal face

I'm going to need more than that. He doesn't impact the scoreboard or link up in scoring chains either. So far the only elite trait is that he tackles hard, he was really bad on friday night

Historically he has been excellent. The pressure he creates and the inferred pressure on the kicker has often resulted in turnovers from the opposition leaving the D50, resulting in multiple reentries and more times our F50.

When we have the ball in f50 our defence pushes way up as well. When we don't have pressure on the kick leaving d50 we are very easy to score over the top of.

To me he at his best he plays a similar role that Maurice Rioli did for Richmond against us. Not only does he create scoring opportunities from reentries but prevents easy goals against. Hard role to replace as well.

I am not so sure about the 'historically excellent' bit but he has played a few good games and and impressed at times with his ball use. 3 possessions is poor and he seemed to run around a lot against the Bulldogs without ever getting near enough to the ball to do something with it, nor can I recall him laying many of the tackles on which his reputation has been built.

But he stays in the side this week because of a lack of list depth. There are also others whose heads take precedence on the chopping block before McCreery's. Perhaps if we ever are able to achieve midfield dominance or even parity, we will be able to more objectively assess his form. I suspect he will be a better player with Ginnivan back in the side.

I meant he's not yet a ball magnet at VFL. Projecting his brother's strengths is really optimistic.

Considering he has averaged 22 disposals a game at VFL level, shows he is starting to develop his game nicely.
I'm not expecting him to get 30 to 35 disposals a game at VFL level yet, so what he is doing now is quite impressive.
His brother only averaged around 20 disposals a game at TAC cup level in his draft year. He became a major ball winner after getting a consistent run in the Bulldogs senior side, and his confidence started to grow....

Take out the games where he was injured early last season he was the highest average inside 50 tackler in the league for players <1 game in the league.

Leave them in and he is number 2 in the league.

Not sure what he needs to do more to be considered excellent in that aspect of the game.

No it’s a footy department decision. Buckley was part of the conversation for sure.

Yep, so when Nathan took reins, he being part of the fd rebuilt the list to the coaches (Nathans) request.

So the allusion that Nathan made a miracle of a list he inherited and had no part in is incorrect.

Thankfully we have some reinforcements coming the next couple of weeks with Pendlebury, Ginni, Elliott and Rough all back. Probably not going to help next week but lets get everyone ready for Carlton, for me that's our grand final.

Our best 12-14 players are very good but we struggle with depth and with so many out the last couple of weeks it has been exposed big time.

It's way too early to write him off. Some players make an instant impact, whilst others are more of a slow burn.
Fin is one of the latter.
Whether he makes it or not is something we'll just have to wait and see.

His brothers for starters! We can only afford to have one Lipinski in the side in any case. They are different players so they won’t ever have the same level of impact. Macrae I would like to be a clean on ball clearance machine.
…that’s setting the bar pretty high for anyone other than a top 5 pick, I reckon.

I also think some people here underrate Lipinski’s performance for us thus far.

It is very early days where MacRae is concerned. By the end of next year, we will have an idea as to whether he might make it. By then he will have played quite a bit of VFL and hopefully some AFL.
I have no doubt that McCreary has the attributes to be a player. At present he is doing as the coach has told him, and doing that well. To me he looks like the powerful fast midfielder we really need. He probably doesn't have the endurance for that yet, so he is playing in the right position for the moment. We certainly have nobody better for the defensive forward job.
McInnes looks likely, but he also has endurance issues. He too will be in and out of the seniors for a while.
Ginnivan has been a real bonus considering where he was taken.
Bianco doesn't look like it, but he hasn't had much time either.
Of the Browns only Tyler might have a future. The weight of his father's reputation could well have crushed Callum. He might be a success at another club.
I could go through the others, but their stories are little different. All show some promise in some areas. They just have to be given time to develop their strengths and address their weaknesses.

so to add insult to injury, it looks like we are also going to cop freo at home, off a loss.
Hopefully they've gone into a slump.
Freo playing in humid conditions today, massive road trip and two days less rest. Are we a chance? 🤔

Freo had 91 tackles today, so we know what to expect.
And the Suns had 79.
