Using a line from a famous Australian movie

"Don't forget who he is..."

Day is coming from a long way back this year no pre season and ramp up to fitness to play. He is still a kid. Will will take some time to get to match fitness. Its amazing what a injury free preseason does for you. Just ask Patrick Cripps. He will be, fingers crossed, in the midfield next year

Midfielders in the league over 185cm.

Granted not all of them are good, nor do they all play midfield exclusively as some only roll through the middle sparingly. Some are still developing/newly drafted too.

But you'll notice a common theme regarding their size.

Day isn't too slight to play as an inside mid right now.

BUT, Day is likely too slight to play inside mid as effectively as he currently plays HBF or on the wing.

He's already coming from so far back this season after an interrupted preseason and then missing with concussion. I think the best thing for him would be continuing to gain some momentum and form in the roles he's been playing so far. Then hopefully he can have a full preseason for next year and then make a step into the guts.

Midfielders/sports in general seem to be trending towards height across the board.
I wouldn't be surprised if we look to develop a few extra mids who are on the taller end of things, but I think we're finding the balance quite well at this stage.

Nash- 197cm- 94kg
Finn- 189cm- 84kg
Day- 191cm- 81kg
Scrimshaw*- 193cm- 89kg
Long- 194cm- 92kg
McDonald- 185cm- 83kg
Fionn- 186cm- 81kg
Downie- 186cm- 83kg
Newcombe- 186cm- 89kg

I think we've gotta get a fair few of our lads on an Eddie Hall/ Brian Shaw diet over this off-season.

*Scrim has spoken of wanting to get into the mid

If the Newk is only 89kg I'll eat my hat.

He is the same height as build as Petracca so I reckon he's up around the 92kg to 95kg mark.

I mean have you seen the size of his thighs, they are like tree trunks!

Seems to be just going through the motions a bit.

Can't wait to see him roll through the middle eventually. At least a season away though

We watch the same game on the weekend?

He had a solid 10ish CBAs and had a real crack with 5 tackles

Definitely not at his best but building back up

Fascinating, was crunching stats b4 after watching some tape of his game Sat …
I think baring injury he’s about to explode .
Interesting you see it as he’s cruising a little 🤔
Not a criticism MP just an observation

He couldnt keep up with Graham in one play down the middle late in the game.

Graham has a great engine, sure, but I would say Day's tank might also prevent him from playing more midfield minutes

Yup. This year it seems it will be gradual exposure.

Hopefully with another full preseason, an improved tank and a bit of bulk he'll be ready to go next year as a mid.

He was cramping due to lack of a preseason there's nothing wrong with his tank.
I didn't realise he was cramping at first and just saw him on the ground with a trainer and holding his foot. My heart wasn't in a great place for half a minute!

Maybe its adjusting from a long time out with injury, then the concussion break, but looks to be playing within himself. Some really poor decision making by foot in the last 2 games also, which is unlike him.

Or maybe its just the high expectations we have of him.

From watching his game, it just looks like he's cruising. Hope you're right that he's about to explode
