I haven't looked into the AFL's version too much just yet but from what I understand they'll be selling AFL "moments" in the form of highlight videos. So in theory someone will be able to own Buddy's 1000th goal moment. They'll then be able to sell the "ownership" of that moment to other people for a price and no doubt the AFL will get a cut every time one of these things changes hands.
And here's the kicker, I'm sure "owning" these moments doesn't actually afford you any meaningful rights to the underlying content. You couldn't prevent it from being shown anywhere by issuing copyright infringement claims and then charge people to view it on your own media platform or anything like that. It'd be more like having a footy trading card that only existed digitally and absolutely anyone and everyone could come view and enjoy it the same as you at zero cost, and while you could sell the card, you couldn't sell or utilise the rights to the image and name on that card.
A pretty enticing business model for the AFL (or anyone who runs a NFT project) to essentially give away or sell something with no intrinsic value to people who will get excited and hype it up for you (because it's now in their interests to do so) and then turn a profit on the trading and subsequent sale of future "moments" that are generated every week already.
The only way I see Day playing in the midfield is to put on some Fyfe to size, otherwise he can play the position but will likely be hurt every so many games, reckon it comes in time and the ankle injury has set him back in the conditioning department
Looking more and more like he's going to be a Pendlebury-esque player each week. Coming through in his stature now that he's had a bit of time to develop his body, as well as through his ability.
Like to see him push into the midfield
He’s 20, give him another 2 years to put on weight. There is no rush with him.
In 2 years he could be the final piece in our mids.
Patience
How did people rate him in the guts? Laid the most tackles for us I think. Would have had a great clearance if world didn't miss a 1 metre handball. Bit to work with imo
Just for a bit of fun I've been reading the first few pages of this thread. Post above from 27 November 2019 was spot on about the player we got in Will.Thank you for those videos.
1. He looks a player, for sure IMO.
2. Excellent game smarts, awareness, skill execution and decision making.
3. Impacts the contest - intercept marks, wins the ground ball, great ball handling, excellent handballs in close.
4. Constructs play. Almost every time he gets the ball he puts his team in a better position, if not in the clear.
We definitely need a player like him, and where he ends up will depend on his physical development, which I expect to take 2 seasons or more before he is established. He reminds me of the kind of football smarts we lost when Mitchell, Hodge, Gibson retired.
I am on board.
Welcome young man.
first viewing of limited highlights had me scratching my head, but the more comprehensive clips made it clear to me.Just for a bit of fun I've been reading the first few pages of this thread. Post above from 27 November 2019 was spot on about the player we got in Will.
No current season stats available
What gives you that idea? Day hasn't had one soft tissue injuryI worry that he'll be a Xavier Ellis type.
Brilliant at the reading the play and doing things, Body can't put on the size required without breaking down.
People look at Will Day and think he's too skinny but you have to remember he's pushing 193cm, he would have far more mass in his body than just looking at the circumference of his bicep, if someone like Darcy Parish who is a good 10-12 cm shorter can play midfield there's no reason Will Day can't even now.
Exactly the point Day isn't too slight to play midfield.Parish is visibly more solid than Day, and both weigh the same, despite the height difference.
