No time is being lost at other times because the umpire calls time on.

It's a weird rule. Players kick the ball away after a free and it's sometimes 50, sometimes not. Umpires have to decide whether he heard the whistle (wtf?), whether he could have reasonably expected a free kick had been paid that way (wtf?), whether there was enough time between the whistle and the kick for the player to have adjusted. Completely random.

For me it should have been 50. The umpires aren't there to protect players from their own stupidity.

The fact that the non-officiating umpire paid the free is significant. It’s entirely plausible that the players didn’t hear the whistle.

Yeh, that’s the old boy when he was a bit younger. We lost him just after Xmas before last. Thanks for that, appreciate it. Still hurts a bit.
Losing our furry mates is the worst of days. They love us unconditionally with their innocence and complete dedication to us.
Few people ever measure up to their flawlessness.

Keep your gloves up mate.
...and I recommend a puppy one day soon.😁

Part of family. Our cat is closing in on 20 years up here in Darwin rarely heard of
He never leaves the boundary mostly 50/50 outside

Well fed but has chased and eats lizards not so much anymore
Would constantly get worms
Vet said from lizards
He taught our 2 Maltese fluff balls to chase lizards.
They are like Milera see the prize but can’t get it

Didn’t want to because I was worried that I’d struggle with a new pup not measuring up to Ralph. Wasn’t doing too well for a couple of reasons mid last year so the missus forced my hand and we picked up Kevin about a week over 12 months ago.

The Richmond player knew he had a free and was asking for fifty immediately

I'm sure the Sydney player didn't hear the whistle because why would he kick it away if he did but it's silly that umpires have to make a judgement call on this

Crowd volume gets taken into account for decisions?

If that was the end of a quarter it’d be a 50 for either time wasting or not giving the ball back on the full. Somehow the rule is different for the final of the 4 sirens?

Not strictly true - Prestia heard the siren and turned in board in disappointment. Even when umpire 17 got on the earpiece to confirm the free, Prestia was on the outer ring of Richmond players, not putting his hand up for the ball. Prestia is almost dragged forward by Grimes while Riewoldt and Martin start the whining.

The whistle came with the siren. In fact, there were two whistles. What’s not clear is whether it was Matt Stevic blowing for the free and umpire 17 blowing for the end of the match, or whether Stevic blew once for the free and then again because he hadn’t been heard.

Crowd volume does get taken into account for 50s. I agree that it’s yet another judgment call, but umpires are paid to make them all game. Umpires will show more leniency to players “not hearing” the whistle in, say, a big match at the G than they would at a game between North and Gold Coast.

Brad Crouch had 24 disposals today for -13 metres gained lol

Our little guy has cancer, found out a month ago, so we are just waiting for that day, took him for a check up a fortnight ago and he has gotten better ad put on weight, so hopefully he will be with us for a bit longer

Christ, I feel sorry for Horne-Francis - being stuck at NMFC is more dangerous to a kid's health than social media or Top 40 music

Id say at this point their drafting looks better than ours.
Longmuir was highly rated , I remember reading somewhere that Walsh wanted him as part of his coaching group.
I haven’t seen them play this year, but they must be doing something right.
Both did. Pyke had Longmuir and Sumich ready to come over. We said no cause we didn't want to pay for them and ended up with Ben Hart.

using jake kelly as a key defender probably wont end well. wont need to run if you can stand next to him all game

Fingers crossed. We got a toe of Ralph’s amputated because of a toenail growing upwards. Turned out to be a very bad and aggressive form of bone cancer. But we were lucky, when they sent it away for the full test, it had spread about a half a cm short of where they’d lopped it off. Was a worrying wait.

Our pets have been our children, but I can’t imagine what it would be like for parents whose actual kids get crook. Lucky I’m a coward in that sense.
