That's it for Port, they are not making finals now.

Tonight was essentially an 8 point game for them.

If Port won they would have been just out of the eight on percentage, but after losing are now two wins and percentage out of the 8.

With only 10 games to go and a fairly tough run ahead them, it's going to be almost impossible for them to make it from here.

Anything that is legitimate criticism of the AFL, especially criticism that could have legal implications for them, is not tolerated in the media landscape they control through accreditation

Yep. Read "The Boys' Club" by Mick Warner. The AFL industry is a corporate dictatorship backed by government first, and a sport second.

Yep, not too many teams make the finals after a 0-5 start. Sydney in 2017 did it after a 0-6 start before Geelong smashed them in the semi.

How did those port guys who smashed heads not get tested for concussion?

Love to know the rules on that.
They're dodgy as duck.

Even when they get caught out they just cover it up.

The Hartlett incident was a prime example, he was clearly knocked out against Hawthorn and when they interviewed him at half time he was completely incoherent, babbling and making no sense so he was clearly concussed.

Yet when the AFL questioned Port about it they claimed that they did the concussion test which he apparently passed, but just forgot to tell the interchange official about it.

They're completely and utterly full of shit.

Yeah they can't make it. Had to win one of the Geelong or Richmond games to sneak in.

If you can just bullshit and tell the AFL they weren't concussed, why aren't all teams doing that? It's a competitive advantage, especially in the context of finals.

Just texted a very good friend who is a doctor for an AFL club. I'll let you know their opinion on the port clash of heads when I get a reply ;)

My opinion - dodgy call.

If it's first quarter, they're getting a test.

Update: doc said 'probably wouldn't let them back on without a test, but they also have access to more camera angles to help make the call.'

Just watched it on replay.

Questions need to be asked. There is little likelihood of no concussion occurring from those two colliding heads.

it should be mandatory for a clash of heads like that

God I hope I get asked. I have thoughts I'd like to share...
You & me both brother

Listening to SEN this morning ....a MCC member went on-line to get tickets to level 2 @ the MCG last night .....apparently booked out ...so watch's the game on TV and see's level 2 almost empty

So he complained on SEN .....few minutes laster MCC say it changed rules, and was walk up seating .....so the MCC didn't think of telling anyone of the changes ????

Biggest problem currently is ticketing ....changes made without advice ....and making members jump thru hoops to get a ticket
Normally members just scan their members ticket & walk in .....currently, they have to go on-line and book a ticket, with a corresponding fee

Other clubs aren't doing it because they have a duty of care to the players. I'm not saying that Port always do it, but in big games where they're desperately trying to win is often when they seem to pull out some questionable action.

Port have way too much form with this type of stuff ie not testing for concussions, dodgy subs at 3 quarter time, covering up off field incidents (Jarman Impey drink driving) etc that it just can't be written off as an honest mistake

At least this time it's actually getting some media scrutiny.

Guys the port doctor has 25 years of experience in being fined for not assessing Hartletts concussion and playing Brad Ebert so he has lifelong concussion issues, so who are you to question?

The whole thing is a farce. The 25 years just means he is a rusted on Port supporter. He will happily bend any rules to help Port out - as we have seen numerous times already.

They made their normal BS sub at 3/4 time. Because they did this, when the head clash happened, they couldn't sub one out. So they ignored all protocols, did not assess the players at all, and sent them back on. Incredibly risky in this day and age. Utterly negligent from the medical team.

Incidences like that, where there has been a clear collision, should be assessed by an independent doctor.

That's another example of just how poor AFL journalists are (yes, I know we don't need more examples).

When Kenny trotted out that line in his after match presser a real journalist would've followed up with "is that the same doctor your club had in charge when it received the 20k fine for not following the concussion protocol?"

Instead all we got was "herp derp good one Kenny. Now are you really going to the GWS?"
