We've got to reintroduce a bit of chaos to our forward entries and when the opportunity is there get it in there before numbers flood back.
The really telling thing with our lack of confidence is how often we have the opportunity to move it but guys are stopping and apparently of the understanding that they're supposed to slow it down. If I see someone have the ball 60-70m out in the middle of the ground and kick it sideways out to the wing again I will spew. Everyone who has played footy at any level knows how much easier it is to defend in the back 50 if the entries are coming from over the mark kicks instead of from players running through the middle of the ground.
We need to forget the idea that we only win games through weight of forward entries and locking the ball in, and re-focus on what our strengths up forward are:
1) Fritsch is clearly our forward with the best craft and needs to play deep with the aim of getting it to him quickly while he's on the move.
2) Kosi is very dangerous in the 50 with any space at all.
3) Brown is very difficult to defend 1v1 as long as he's got room to move and doesn't get into a wrestle.
We're currently playing a game style which actively denies us EVERY ONE of these strengths, in favour of a game style which makes them all very average players. We have to get the three of them playing deep and working together to make sure their are leading options for the ball carrier coming through half forward. Then the obligation is on the players further up the field to keep the ball moving and kick it to their advantage.
B: Hibberd - May - Petty
HB: Salem - Lever - Brayshaw (Bowey)
C: Jordon - Oliver - Langdon
HF: Bedford (ANB) - Jackson - Spargo (Chandler)
FF: Kosi - Fritsch - Brown
R: Gawn - Trac - Viney
I: Bowey - ANB - Chandler - Harmes
Sub options: Sparrow, Rivers, Thommo, Turner
