I’m not saying it’s necessary, but if that is what the club chose to do, who would be up in arms about it?

Chad was a gun at Port for 7 years. No doubt. Unfortunately his 4 years with us have been well below that standard.

So why keep a guy on the slide we were happy to trade when he was under contract in order to lure Amon?

It’s illogical because:

1. Nothing to suggest Amon wants to play here due to Wingard having been here;

2. Wingard’s output has been cruelled by injury;

3. The club looked at trading him 12 months ago when he had a year to run on his contract; and

4. No new contract is on the table with 7 weeks to the end of the year.

So if Wingard was getting paid, say, $700k/year and that’s off our books for 2023, then there’s more money to lure Amon across
What is illogical is attacking people for suggesting Amon wouldn’t value chad’s opinion of the club.

Would you seek the opinion of someone who had to come out and shut down trade talk because the new coach didn’t?

Where did I attack anyone on here?

If anything, it’s been the other way around.

NB: Previous posts stated we should extend Chad another 2 years and he would have “a fairly big influence on Amon coming here”

Wingard output has been well below standard, you say.

Any correlation to the pathetic numbers and delivery going inside F50?

As a Hawks forward, not much you can do when the ball hardly goes inside F50..

We weren’t looking to trade Wingard. GWS made an offer that he declined so it didn’t proceed. GWS has offered to trade for Breust on multiple occasions - it never meant we were looking to trade him.

Please see attached:

Hawthorn were happy to part ways with Chad Wingard and Luke Breust before the contracted Hawks stars pushed back on AFL trades to GWS.

Desperate to improve their draft hand under new coach Sam Mitchell, the Hawks were willing to let go established players

That doesn't say we actively tried to trade them. Just that an offer came in and we acknowledged that offer.

I’d definitely ask a mate/ex-team mate what it was like at the club and to play for same regardless of that persons future involvement with the club. Maybe even especially so if he was being moved on.

And I’d suggest you reread that post as you are mischaracterising it.

But, but, but….there were “reports” that Sam was ringing around desperately trying to find suitors for Tom, Jaeger, Chad and Bruest. 😉

Then GWS showed interest which was abruptly shut down by…….Chad (not Sam or Jeff)

Where’s the new contract for Wingard? If he is such a priority, why not announce it? Everyone else extending has been announced almost immediately.

Sam said during the trade period that he wasn’t desperately calling clubs or having player specific conversations - of course that wasn’t as fun as the ‘SAM MITCHELL DESPERATELY CALLING CLUBS!!’ headlines so didn’t get reported as much.

And clubs delay signing news all the time. I’m not suggesting any inside info or that a deal has been done - just saying we don’t know for sure what’s going on behind the scenes at the club.

I hope you go to the game this weekend because you'll scare all the Crows away with these strawmen you're rolling out

From that very article:

“We’re happy for you (Wingard and Breust) to have that conversation (with GWS), see where that sits for you, but you’re also required footballers at our club and much-loved players,” Hawks football boss Rob McCartney told Fox Footy.

That doesn't exactly sound like we wanted them gone. In fact, it very much sounds like we wanted them to stay but were happy for them to explore options and determine what's best for themselves.

So what are we doing with Chad now?

We sure as hell ain’t announcing a contract extension.

Thanks for all your “constructive criticism”.

The amount of sarcasm and derision directed my way for simply suggesting Wingard being here in 2023 to entice Amon across (as he apparently has some connection) wasn’t a realistic argument for a contract extension was unwarranted.

I’ve made cogent arguments and posted an article supporting my views. No one has done the same in return. I’ve just copped ridicule instead.

You have made me an unhappy Hawk and I hope you’re all satisfied. 👎

If you want everyone to agree with you and inflate your ego have you considered that offering opinions on the internet may not be for you?

I didn’t want everyone to agree with me but there’s respectfully disagreeing and there’s the rubbish that is in this thread over the past 2 hours.

Seriously - stop being a condescending snob.

Again if you’re looking for civilised discourse you’re not going to find it in an internet forum. As lamentable as that might be its just the way it is.

It's Wingard mate, you'll cop it posting anything negative regarding him, whilst the same posters are happy to continually pile on Tom despite the amazing service he has given our club...

You made some good points mate, no doubt.

Lets see where Sam heads at end of season, as I dont think he views Chad as highly as many do here.

Sure but in this instance he's not saying the 'internet', he's saying you and your behaviour.

Loving one of his posts saying he was unhappy is just being a bully mate.

I engaged civilly as did others and he continually doubled down on his points with speculation and strawmen - that's fine we are all entitled to hunker down with our opinions. If you are then going to crack the sads about it and demand everyone not be mean to you like a small child then I am not going to spoon-feed you platitudes. I have an actual infant to care for - someone arguing on the internet who gets upset because some people can be snarky or sarcastic should just not engage.

Mate, take a breather! I don't have anything against you or your opinions. I was only disagreeing with the argument that the club is happy to see them go.

At the moment, I don't see any reason why we wouldn't extend Chad. Yes, the injuries are frustrating, but he is still such a classy player and the most damaging mid we have. All in due time.

You have absolutely no basis for this other than some weird gripe you have with Wingard.

Nothing against Wingard personally, I am just going on output. He hasn't delivered. If it was a player at another club, or even our own (Tom), we would be freer with criticism... I'm sure we have all whacked Jack Stringer at some point since he crossed to the bombers.

And look that's fair, it is probably my view towards Wingard. But equally, the same can be said of the view that the club want's to hang onto him. That cannot be known either, he is out of contract and we were happy if he left last year (no point getting into semantics of if we put him up or not).

We will find out at the end of season really. It's an interesting watch, you must at least admit that.

I don't believe you. You've given him shit ever since he arrived. Even with this Tom conversation, it was a comparison between him and Lewis and you brought Wingard in out of nowhere just to take a pot shot at him. He plays a bad game, you're one of the first to point it out. He plays a blinder (and he has done a few times running through the middle), you're nowhere to be seen. So spare me your "just going on output" BS.
