I wonder who will be available at the end of next year. Will all the good coaches be taken?
If clubs can steal ours, then it’s time we did the same.

The one thing you could never argue against Bev was the players played for him, workrate has never been an issue for us. Currently it is and the players aren’t playing for him - say what you will about his tactics or game plan but at the end of the day this is all that matters. It could be structure or it could be the players not working hard/not fit enough.
It was mentioned that we ran a collective 7KMs less than the Fremantle players - which does suggest a work rate/fitness issue.
OK, this is very left field but is there any possibility that Beveridge could fall on his sword at season's end? He may be coming to the view that he has taken this group as far as he can and that now it deserves a fresh direction. I admit it is highly unlikely but these thoughts must be starting to take shape in his psyche right now.
Can’t really be royally ****ed, it’s not like people sign long term contracts - unless we’ve got our myotherapist signed to a 7 year contract - any mistakes we’ve made in the past are definitely fixable, if not this year then definitely by next year anyway. If clubs can steal ours, then it’s time we did the same.

I am worried about Bevo, he has aged this year. He doesn’t look happy, he always looks worried, he has cut down on his media appearances, and his coaching moves are increasingly unhinged and desperate.
I know he is on the record for saying that you should never stay in the job for too long, I think he will be reading the writing on the wall.

What's the state of the FFC vice-regal cellar ?

Perfect opportunity to bring in Leon Cameron as an assistant coach, it seems to me Leon is making amends too, with his comments about Hanes and that infamous coin toss.Agree with a lot of that. I’m on the record saying next year top 4 or bust with Bevo, so I’m prepared to give it 12 more months. But right now is his 2016 Hardwick moment. The Board and Bains must force upon him a senior assistant. That is a non-negotiable. He’s become untouchable in his own mind, sprouting hubris with talk of revolutions and this cannot be allowed to continue. The most important end of year interview will be Bains, Grant and Bevo himself.
We are going to know in the first 2 mins of next season if things have changed when the oppo takes a mark and as to whether we stand the mark or retreat back….

Where's Bevo's Brief today? I'm waiting with bated breath to watch it and it's not in my Inbox. I even checked Spam where it really belongs. I ain't happy. grr...
If they don't I will not be purchasing a family membership this year... win or lose, the lack of passion and suspect team selections is making me hate football. Lose the same way each and every week. Over and over again its the same mistakes... same players turning it over.... enough is enough!Agree with a lot of that. What you suggest I agree with and I would think it would also make Bev a better coach. We are all forever grateful to Luke for what he did for us in 2016, but we have a list that should be playing consistent football ala Geelong now and Hawthorn of 8 years ago. The reality is that we were above average in 2016 and peaked beautifully for that finals series and we were consistent for the first half of 2021 and looked to be on the cusp of something special, but then the wheels fell off again.
Every year since 2015 we have been inconsistent, but have been viewed as a dangerous team to play who on their day is capable of beating anyone. WTF is that?
I think he has to go but this will only happen if he identifies that it is time. The club won't sack him and I don't think it would be the right thing to do.
If he does stay, the coaching panel needs to be completely overhauled - all 3 line coaches need to go.
Possibly Granty has to go. Great bloke but part of the Bevo boys club me thinks.
New footy ops manager, senior assistant, 3 x quality line coaches.
We need people who will challenge the coaches thinking, suggest new ideas and tactics and breathe some life into the group. The concede tactic for manning the mark is so bad. Someone like Monty would straight up call this for what it is.
Bevo is very unlikely to fall on his sword spontaneously. Media pressure on its own won’t do it either - outside criticism just hardens his resolve.
What will do it is pressure from within the club, especially from the players. However Bont won’t instigate a putsch himself.
Bont may however have his hand forced. If enough players say to him I’m done with this coach and so I’m done with this club he might see that taking an ultimatum to management is the best course out of some pretty unappealing options.
That ultimatum might have options, e.g. either Bevo goes or we have a serious restructuring of the coaching roles. Checks and balances.
If that happened Bevo might think it’s not worth the arm wrestle and might decide to move on. No doubt he is already set up for life financially.
I don’t think any of that is likely but it can’t be ruled out. The next couple of games should tell us whether he’s lost the players or not.
And if we fail to make the eight the next few weeks after Rd 23 could be worth watching. A full review, preferably from an outsider, is the least we should accept.
