Doesn't he still have a year left on his contract on fairly big money? I can't see your board paying him out.

If Hinkley could get a long-term extension at Port on big money after the 2017 season, I suspect the same will be forthcoming here. The board will probably look at the last four years and see three top 8 finishes, one Grand Final appearance, and conclude he deserves an extension.

I actually think Bevo is a genius coach and his impact on the modern game is second only to Clarko. But that doesn't necessarily make him a good coach. He has too much faith in himself and not enough in the players. Trying to get around the opposition constantly with handballs and switches is a great strategy to fall back on when you can't beat them head on but using it as our main tactic doesn't play to our strengths. We often look our best going straight through but the way we set up our numbers doesn't allow us to do it consistently.

Right now the best teams have an appetite for risk and leave it in the hands of their players, with some fallback if things go wrong (usually in the form of a spare behind the ball). We take the risk with a differently looking defence that's very attack oriented but the way we play is so carefully planned it's predictable.

First live game for the year,
was shocked by the defensive zone, neither a full press or a sit back, players are lost, so easily picked apart. so different to last year
the outside five rule means players tend to keep zoning off and dont know when to close space and try to force a turnover, puts no pressure on the opposition
im usually an optimistic supporter but i can see us wasting this list over the next few years if Bevo isnt moved on or at least forced to take an elite senior assistant

You would have to question his football judgment.

Cordy has been a substandard defender for at least the past 4 seasons- yet he still plays as our main defender. Who else in the football world thinks this is not stupidity.

His handling of guys like Young, Trengove and Roughead shows poor judgment imo as well. These guys could have been useful key defenders yet he chased them out of the club.

Then there is his continual complaining that we lose despite winning the inside 50 count. Really- does he still have no idea why this happens over the past 5 years?

Then there is the ruck disaster we have been experiencing since 2016. He has developed 100% reliance on one young ruckman who is useful around the ground but substandard in the centre square.

He really needs a strong assistant- someone who call out poor decisions and provide some clarity for the players.

Cordy was giving up 12cm, 15kg while being slower than his opponent. How the **** do you go into the game thinking that was a good matchup as a coaching group. Even Schache as a defender at least had a better shot athletically

Lobb will do well in the forward line. Naughton has kicked a decent number this year, and Bruce did last year.

The problem is we’ll concede twice that number to oppo KPFs so whatever.

If we can tighten up around the ground, develop Darcy down back and pick up Jones, 2023 might be an exciting one!

I just want to congratulate Luke Beveridge, for achieving something neither Charlie Sutton nor EJ could do.

In 1955, Sutton managed to miss finals after coaching a flag side.

In 1962, Whitten managed to miss finals after coaching the team to a GF.

Beveridge is about to achieve both of those combined. No other coach in our history, not even in the VFA (where we seemed to have no trouble backing up flags with - more flags!) has done this.

2017 and 2022. Well done Beveridge, I salute you.

(Also can't wait for 2023 to be another 2018.)

So much hope for next year being different, ahh. Remember how we had the whole preseason after losing the granny and the best we came up with for round 1 was Schache on the wing, Cordy at CHF & outside 5. Good times.

Blokes a fraud, we are changing nothing next year.

Positional changes this year:

Cordy - forward, ruck, back
Treloar - mid, wing, forward, back
Schache - wing, back, forward
Libba - started forward, now mid
Buku - back, forward, back
Scott - forward, wing, back
Hannan - forward, back
Mcneil - wing, forward
Williams - back, wing

Also Bont's taken a few ruck contests, and Bruce coming back from an ACL asked to pinch hit in the ruck as well. Not saying he shouldn't play that role, but surely not when he's still finding his feet after 12 months out.

With that level of flexibility adopted by the coach, you'd think he'd have a plan for every scenario. Or at least - a plan.

I'm at the point where watching our matches just makes me angry and frustrated and that's not how it should be.

It's the coaching.

I can see the talent we have and I see our nonsensical game style and it's infuriating.

Unless there's some massive changes over the off season, I'll occupy my time doing something else next year.

Are we the only team that does the “outside 5” on every single opposition free kick / mark?

Against a team that took 140 marks and got 14 frees, we’re conceding 770m for the game (in theory, it’s obviously going to be a bit less). How is this a solid strategy and isn’t it obviously flawed if we’re seemingly the only team regularly doing it?
