Be the only 2 left on this list that have played in a winning final at Hawthorn ?

Yep at Hawks anyway - Titch and Phillips would have elsewhere.

This got me curious if Smith kicked true would many other current players be finals winners. And the answer would have been only Howe added to that list:

But if we got up against the Dees in 2018 we could have added 8 current players to score a finals win as a Hawk

How dare we discuss Hawthorn list management on the Hawthorn board in the list management thread
it does say 2022 however when was the JOM trade? Discussing the trade is not really relevant anymore. Discussing JOM going forward yep

We gave up Pick 7 in 2017, 26 in 2017 as well as 23 and 36 in 2016 for the deals to get Jeager over the line. It was a fair bit.

Feel free to have a look at who was taken or still available at those picks, would be curious to know who of them would have made that much of a difference.
We, read Clarko, expected a Silk outcome and in my view, undervalued Draft picks. That said, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

So next year, rd1, first bounce what’s the starting group in the middle? Reeves/Newk/Ward/Finn I would feel very comfortable with. Still a long way to go but geez it’s been a good year for our club in building some Lego blocks ….. feeling optimistic!

Reeves, Newcombe, O'Meara, Moore.

That trio is the one filling me with the most confidence at the moment.

Nope. I’m happy with our developing rucks. Need a seasoned VFL vet to hold the next year, but Grundy doesn’t offer value for us.
Reeves - played 12 games, dislocated shoulder now getting surgery and missed 10 games (55% played)

Lynch - played 6 games, missed the rest of the season with bee sting and multiple concussions (27% played)

Ramsden - never played AFL probably 2 years away (0% games)

So out of these 3 players suiting up in 2023 we got an output of 27% of games played and got repeatedly hammered in the ruck as a result.

What’s there to be happy about?

The future?
Which is yet to be determined.

You could perhaps be hopeful and optimistic. 👍

Frankly, without a seasoned ruck available, who can work in tandem with Reeves as the #1, we are a good chance of another frustrating year in the middle of the ground - especially against the top 10 sides.

We need another ruck. At the very least one who is 23-24, with perhaps 30 AFL games under his belt.

After all, that’s more than the grand total of 26 AFL games played by our current ruck division.

If we see Kosi and Callow in the ruck in 2023 it's a major fail for our list management

Can imagine the Melbourne board circa 2013 -

"Gawn, played 17 games in 4 years - ACL x 2, Meniscus tear. What's there to be happy about?"

We've got promising 3 promising young rucks there, Reeves in particular could be the most dominant tap ruck in the league. Grundy is a great giant midfielder/ruck, but doesn't perform well up forward or down back generally - so acquiring him would put all our eggs in that basket and likely compromise Reeves' development as they both really need to be the #1 ruck to be valuable.

Reckon we'd be well advised to pick up one more ruck as backup, but Grundy... eh. It'd have to be a proper salary dump.
