I stand by it, we've had a lot of problems through the middle. There are better midfielders in the league obviously, but none would have made a real difference compared to O'Meara. Even with him being an above average / elite centre clearance player most years we've still had the worst centre clearance differential since 2019, same goes with contested possessions, stoppage clearances. Pretty much everything through there. Could have replaced him with peak Dusty and we'd have been no better or potentially worse because of how lazy Dusty is defensively.

We made 5 draft decisions around inside mids from 2010-2015 that completely f'd us and meant we felt the need to go hard at the trade table, but even so, the deal for Jaeger was horrendous, parting with those picks delayed the inevitable and set us back years.

We gave up Pick 7 in 2017, 26 in 2017 as well as 23 and 36 in 2016 for the deals to get Jeager over the line. It was a fair bit.

Feel free to have a look at who was taken or still available at those picks, would be curious to know who of them would have made that much of a difference.

Easy

Shai Bolton, Tom Stewart, Aaron Naughton & take your pick of Sam Taylor/Liam Ryan/Bailey Fritsch

Again - nobody (outside of Hawthorn2023) is calling Tom a spud. People need to stop with this 'stop hating on Tom' business. Most people who are willing to objectively critique what he is presently offering for the side and being realistic about him possibly being trade collateral don't hate him and don't think he is a spud. Try some nuance.

When I've looked back, Naughton and Bolton are the two biggest missed opportunities - Ryan was always going to West Coast, Stewart was always going to Geelong.

It still leaves us with an issue in the midfield though.

Yes finally! Let’s discuss the JOM trade one more time….

That's fine, but just be mindful the next time you put JOM and the word "elite" in the same sentence.
I mean there's certainly blue, I'm just not medically qualified to comment as to why you can't see it.

a perfect illustration of the failure the omeara deal was

that said he's been good this year and it looks like his best years at hawthorn are ahead of him ...has a role to play
Bolton was pick 29 and was passed over by every team. In hindsight, he would have been great, but how likely is it that we actually would have picked him?

Others would have been handy, but none would fix our midfield issues, in fact, we'd be worse off.

Time for us to join the Grundy chase. Lose McEvoy and his salary, Coll willing to pay a chunk of his salary and we wouldn't need to part with much in draft capital.

Nope. I’m happy with our developing rucks. Need a seasoned VFL vet to hold the next year, but Grundy doesn’t offer value for us.
