As a new entrant it is sometimes very difficult to adhere to the posting rules. For my understanding, I have been blocked from the draft thread because I made a joke about pick 6 being cursed so maybe we trade those picked with it. Yet in the list management thread in the last few pages there’s draft talk about cadman, trade talk re Grundy…seems a fairly loose thread in comparison. I assumed trade is the trade thread draft is the draft thread list is for players on our list?
Definitely post about the clarko issues of the past in every thread, their isn’t enough posts about it yet…

While it can seem over the top, it is quite helpful. If you look at the draft threads on some boards, you find pages and pages of rambling about best 22s, trades, random crap players on their list that nobody knows etc.

JOM’s year is being severely underrated imo. Just like his role was when Worpel won the BNF. People can’t seem to get over the fact he didn’t end up fulfilling the potential of a Judd-esque player.

That's not it. He didn't end up living up-to what we gave up in a trade and paid him per year. It's fair to have expected more.

I agree he's having a really good year as a senior player however. He's a solid B grade player that's reliable, team oriented and in a bit of a Richie Vandenberg mold as we rebuild.

This is actually close to what I said anyway haha. Wasn’t what people thought / didn’t get there. He’s critiqued and judged harder due to that.

It's an interesting one. Because as a leader and role player he's been exceptional this year.

But he's still right in his prime and one of our highest paid players.

Could be worse, could be better I guess.

I loved Richie but he didn’t have any of the elite traits that JOM has. JOM just can’t get involved in games enough, and I think that’s just because injuries have worn him down. His output this year has been fantastic though and I totally see a role for him in the years ahead. He’ll just never be the certified A grader we all hoped for.

Could see him having a late career break out season next year, been quietly building some really strong consistent footy.

And with some stronger mids in the team, he will shine

Richie Vandenberg? This is a joke right?

O'Meara and his trade value has been rehashed ad anfinitum on this board. The reality is, when you look at the players taken with and in the area of the picks we gave up, O'Meara and his career with the Hawks has exceeded the output from any combination of those players.

The problem for Jaeger is that the club hasn't lived up to what we expected from ourselves after acquiring him, through no fault of his really. He's been a great on field leader, unselfish and defensively oriented - the type of player who sacrifices his own role to guy to allow others to succeed.

One sliding doors moment back in 2019, Mitchell breaking his leg, hard to know what trajectory we'd be on if that never happened. Jaeger was only getting better and better, learning to work with Mitchell. The combination of Jaeger's early 2019 form and a continuation of Mitchell's 2018 form would have been exciting to watch. As it went down, Jaeger has had to be the glue holding a constantly fluctuating midfield together - there isn't a midfielder in the league who could have done more for us in that period with the way we were playing.

He's finally playing a role in a midfield which looks settled, and fresh. The ideal guy to have on our list leading that group of 19 - 23 year olds. Going back to 2017, even with hindsight, nothing would change - I'd still want us to do what we could to get him across.

Sorry mate, didn't read on after your first line.

You should chill a bit in your posts mate. It's a bit much now. Hopefully you see that too. I CBF being the next poster you try and antagonise.

‘I didn’t read your posts because there’s paragraphs and big words in there’ isn’t the burn you think it is.

Needs more hyperbole
I stand by it, we've had a lot of problems through the middle. There are better midfielders in the league obviously, but none would have made a real difference compared to O'Meara. Even with him being an above average / elite centre clearance player most years we've still had the worst centre clearance differential since 2019, same goes with contested possessions, stoppage clearances. Pretty much everything through there. Could have replaced him with peak Dusty and we'd have been no better or potentially worse because of how lazy Dusty is defensively.

Thanks for obliging !

Say what?

Now we are well and truly out of the running for Sheezel and likely Tsatas too, I hope we target one of the midfielder that can have an impact in the forward line, like:
  • Mackenzie
  • Phillipou
  • Humphrey

Maybe George too, though he hasn't had a chance to play for a while.
