The umpiring error that cost us our season

The reality is if it was a goal

stop being a wimp.

I honestly have no time for supporters who want to act hollier than thou all year about being "positive beings" & about supporting the team is what matters.

Supporting your team is FIGHTING for them. What happened was a legit robbery - it was not an error or miscalculation, it was a decision made by the AFL. Richo & Dimma have both tweeted about the incident to raise its story in the media & if these fans that think that wiggling their fingers and sending good vibes makes them a superior fan did the same thing, we might actually make the AFL squirm alot as they CLEARLY wiul have NO EVIDENCE. We have seen all the footage already - its inconclusive, or suggest it was a goal. Its definitely not the "definitive proof" required.
People are letting them. Even our own "fans"
100% Brother.
Seeing a lot of meek and demoralised fans playing off their learned helplessness as stoicism. Their is absolutely a lot that can be done about this with it being a video review of A GOAL THAT WAS ACTUALLY KICKED as opposed to one that may or may not have been kicked if a free had/had not been given. The AFL have really shown themselves in the light here. Awareness and online campaign, threats of financial sanction on AFL are a start from fans. When it comes to the club, whom are cashed up, the money can’t go to the salary cap or the soft cap and instead goes to propping up North and such. Why doesn’t some of the equalisation money that Richmond members pay go towards having this looked into legally. This should be demanded from the club. This corruption is so blatant and 1000 Tarrantos will not outweigh the demoralisation and descent into irrelevance that will occur should a stand not be taken now.

Why did Lynch try and kick the s**t out of it?? Nice easy kick gets it in.

This. Thid has been my takeaway from it. Shows poor composure.

No need to kick it as hard as he did from there. Doing so makes it more likely he miskicks and misses. Simple step out and kick was all that was needed. No need to sink the boot into it.

Lynch was nervy throughout the whole shot. Could see him debating whether or not to go drop punt or snap.

Was never comfortable through that whole shot. I personally would have gone the drop punt from there.

I think he was nervous because he tried a left-foot attempt from a very similar position a few weeks ago and he bodied the ball and it went OOTF... so he went the checkside and still got the ball between the goalposts, but we all know what happened in actuality.

How the **** could this be your takeaway from this. The new footage that emerged today showed HE KICKED THE GOAL and the arc potato arc footage was not conclusive to overturn when the goal umpire correctly called it a goal. The AFL than treated us like idiots by telling us through the mouthpiece of Tom Browne 2 unprecedented whoppers/spontaneous rule changes:
1. We go off body language
2. We have secret HD footage that you can’t see. (Which by the way is impossible in light of the reverse angle footage)

I know everyone has commented on this elsewhere, but seriously think we are not giving this moment the respect it deserves by not having its own thread.

All year as supporters, we have bitched and moaned about AFL/umpiring interference that seemingly continued to derail our season. This overturned goal however is, by far, the worst example of it as the system which failed us is meant to be the safest and most accurate in the entire league. Definitive proof is required to overturn a goal. As of yet the AFL has provided no such proof.

The below fan footage to me totally debunks any possibility to "definitive" proof, as this video to me clearly shows its a goal.

People need to remember that he is kicking this from literally 5m out. The ball has barely any distance to travel.

The first shot shows the ball hitting his boot. note the time. 11 seconds

View attachment 1497233

The 2nd shot show the ball inside the post on its way -through

View attachment 1497214

The 3rd shot shows it alongside the post, without actually hitting it. If the ball was hitting the post as they say, then why the F did it not hit it at this point?

View attachment 1497218

This 4th shot where people say "its over the post" clearly have no idea of scale, but also how long it takes a footy to go 5m when kicked by a powerful person. This shot the ball is CLEARLY past the post. The scale of the post vs Ball is so far our its not funny, the footy looks like a cricket ball ffs. To also believe that this shot shows its "over the post" means you would have to believe the Lynchs kick which had to travel 5 meters to 2 full seconds to complete its journey through the goals from foot to passing the goal line. That is just not possible.

I know nothing can change now, but this has literally been the center of all our bitching all year. If we want this s**t to stop, we need to make it clear - we know we were *ed.we know the AFL broke their own protocol to make it happen. We expect the AFL to actually provide the proof they drew from to overturn the call, and it must be more definitive than this video / pics to over-rule it.

Just gutted to lose like this. There is no reality where the ARC should have overturned that, especially from the footage we saw them checking & especially within 20-30 seconds.

People wondering why the call came so fast? Because if they took longer they know we would have set up more of a zone behind the ball and we would have locked it in. They made a quick call when everyone was expecting a goal, which allowed the Lions an easy chance to move the ball down the field.

Just gutted - quite literally we were robbed of this one. All year we felt this. It was why i stopped watching games live. Its why despite the final being played on my doorstep, i avoided going - i just knew there was no way i would go to that ground and leave feeling like i watched a game played and won fairly. 2022 was a joke of a season for Richmond fans

Lol the Twitter replies , bunch of nuffs

Nope. I was convinced it was a goal UNTIL I saw the new footage. It clearly shows the ball going OVER the post. Which is a behind. Unfortunately, it was rhe right call.

The ball definitely appears to disappear behind the post about a metre down at one point in the video …. but that may be an optical illusion or a poor frame rate … I just don’t know any more….

It’s behind the post there. Can clearly see the white of the post in between the two ends of the ball

Last night just proved to me what I have always though for some years all sports since betting companies became heavily involved can be fixed….especially NBA the NFL and now the AFL. Magnetic rims, posts, gloves the technology is already there. Changes to rules that allow umpires/refs to control the game and momentum.…why do you think headsets and earpieces are worn. Seriously wake up it’s entertainment but the sheep will have you believe nooooo that can never happen. Take gambling you think they leave a billion dollar industry up to chance….lol if everyone bet on the favourites the books would be out business….we are watching entertainment and they want you to be entertained.

Stop internalising the commands of people who hate you. I have paused it for you at the key moments in the hope you come to your senses. Ball went through more comfortably then most think and did not reach its peak until well past the goals. You have to remember he was 5 metres out and thumped the ball. It only looked above the post when it was at its peak, which was well past the goals. Look where I have paused it as it passes the goals, the ball is obscured. Soccer fans would not cop this. They even got a whole Super league canned. The league treats AFL fans in general like peasants because they know they can. Most abusive administration-stakeholder relationship in all of sports.

All these non richmond oppo supporters mouthing off on Facebook and Twitter about Hardwick being a sore loser and us supporters i would love to cave all their heads in they are all ****ing blind if you can’t see that ball curling through the goals and up above the post and all those ****wits are going off Lynch’s reaction as well would love to see it happen in grand final and it costs someone a flag all hell will break loose

It’s a very expensive amateur league played and coached by professional teams.

New rules mid way in the season - some that are only played for a few weeks then forgotten (dissent rule).
Overrule a rule by introducing common sense.
Disrupt flow of games by calling score review if it was a behind when a free kick was given anyway.
Some score reviews go on for ages and others way to short.

Most difficult game to umpire, yet they are not professional.

Problem is probably the game is only played professionally in one country and there is no world governing body who could warn the AFL of their madness.

I watched the Melbourne vs Sydney game and really enjoyed it as a neutral. I wanted the Swans to win in a close good contest, but would have not been gutted if they lost. Made me think this might be the only way now to enjoy the AFL. Neutral and not give a stuff.

*Fixed.

Great post terrybull, sorry for the editing. I’m still seething.

The Tribunal/ Match review is rubbish. The fixture is rubbish when you play home games at Marvel. Play 17 rounds & make it fair you ****en nimrods. The constant rule changes/ interpretation is rubbish. Propping up the Melbourne FC when they were rubbish enabling them to win a flag is pure rubbish. North Melbourne will be the next team kissed on the dick until they win a flag. Umpiring/ Score reviews are ****en pathetic & getting worse. AFL thinking they can tell us how to act & think can go & get ****ed. The way they expect us to accept their piss weak explanation s they must think we’re ****en stupid, we’ll we’re not! You’re the ones who are stupid you ****ed football at grass roots level years ago & you’re well on the way to completely ****ing it up at the top level as well. Complete & utter rubbish! Shove it up your arse I’m done

No worries.

I am still trying to believe it’s not corrupt but run by naive people who should not be in this position.

Also they run the League like a dictator where they can’t do any wrong and won’t tolerate any criticism. This may cause more and more turn away from the League and possibly the game.

They haven’t even apologised to Fitzroy fans have they?

One single League should not be the caretaker of the game.

The media is also over the top where commentators are being hysteric with goals getting kicked in the first quarter :p

Overrunning that was rubbish but when I think back on this game there will be dozens of mistakes we made before I think of this. And on top of that, the if we don't choke against even just the Suns and North we finish above Brisbane and that game was at the G and an easy win. And on top of that if we didn't choke against Freo, Cats, Blues, Pies whoever else we are top 4 and really could have been top 2.

We cost us our own season, but really the same thing happened over and over with us falling apart. That was just how good we were this year. Nothing was going to change in the next 3 weeks.

Nothing wrong with a dictator if he's for you, and I don't think any of the majority (17 clubs and the AFL) will turn away from the League because the minority isn't getting fair treatment.

Maybe they just squared up with Brisbane after f*****g them over at Kardinia Park twice.
