Im not too phased about losing Sharp. I dont rate him. Pretty soft, one paced, not a great overhead mark. He can kick it far and high though and does bob up for the odd goal.

It is annoying considering that we used a low pick on him and could have done better getting in someone else.

I thought Sharp was projecting pretty well. Just needs games. If he’s homesick, can’t do much about that unfortunately. Shame all around as has been mentioned we gave up a bit to get him in the first place.

I know it’s only one game but watch Long’s last one v Sydney and remember he’s just entering his prime at 25 years of age and 80 odd games. He definitely ain’t :poo: Lots of Saints fans annoyed he wants out.
You guys have done well to get Longy. His effectiveness or not will depend on your Coach's ability to use him for what he's good at and not have him pulling a plow like he was at the Saints. Play him in the backline and let him attack the ball (and man) and you'll have yourselves a winner.
I'm definitely one of those whose pissed off at losing him.

His kicking efficiency is above 70% and can put on good pressure. He's Nick Holman basically is Nick could kick.

He'll play half back for the suns and would most likely be a small defender for us.

I'm happy if the money is good and is about 2-3 year deal.

Ben Long is a decent player. Underrated IMO.

He is very good at ground level and in traffic with quick hands feeding the better outside players. He is hard at it and not afraid of putting his head over it, hence high CP numbers. And he is versatile, can play any of the flank / wing positions.

Bonus he is an NT lad so will do nicely building the Suns brand in that zone. Two games a year in the NT possibly.

At 25 also a really good age bracket for where the Suns are.

I would have him at the Eagles for the right price.

Probably next years 3rd, but just to be creative pick 7 and sharp for pick 2?

Dropping from 2 to 7 for Sharp is a tad cheeky. I'm being polite as this is the Suns board.

Eagles landed pick 26 from Port dropping from 12 to 14 last year as a reference.

Eagles future 3rd would be around the same as this year, 38 - 40ish. So pretty close.

Disappointing we haven’t been able to make it work with Sharp. Will be a real weapon offensively, but his lack of contested ability and willingness to put his head over the footy is obvious (although that’s what was advertised when drafted, so shouldn’t be shocked by that).

And clearly on the outer with Dew so there’s no coming back from that.

Our ability to turn highly rated (by our recruiting team) 1st round draftees into discarded steak knives in such a short amount of time is impressively bad - Scrimshaw, Brodie, Sharp, potentially Flanders.

Just curious, how good is he defending one-on-one on smaller forwards? We basically have only Lemmens at the moment.

I hate the narrative on here that every player that doesn't turn into Touk Miller is because Dew didn't help them.

Last time I checked these are adults who can control how much effort they can put in to a training session, development takes time

If Sharp wants to leave who cares? Why would you want someone at your club who's not going to put 100% effort into each game and expects to be picked in the seniors?

Agree, the narrative that all shit is on senior coach Dew is ridiculous. There are plenty of coaches involved. When I watched VFL over weekend and saw some piss weak efforts from Sharp, I told myself, just go.
