How did Suns go with Lyons in the line-up for 2 years (including having Ablett as a teammate)? Lions fans were asking to drop Lyons the whole season and finally got their wish. Most Lions fans worry about 2 more years left on his contract. Brodie's game got exploited in the finals and Wright - goes ok, still not great KPF. I prefer watching Chol on supposedly 400-450K.

Wright goes ok?
Kicked 50+ in a crap team.

If he kicked 50 for us, would of had him second highest goal tally in Suns History.

Wright also 2 years older than when he was with us.

Obviously was going to improve as he physically matured.

Still, would have liked him to be doing that with us.

I can’t imagine that his performance wouldn’t have been similar playing on the coast. Although conditions at Metricon probably suit him considerably less than marvel / mcg.

Where will you get the points for your 2 F/S players then? That 2023 1st could be worthless if you go into deficit.

We'll give you a 2nd for Jack Payne :p
It will wipe us out of two drafts. It’ll take all our picks this and next year to match the bids.

But you do that every day of the week for the 3 players involved.

We’ve got a couple more academy kids that project as mid to late/rookie picks next year, so we’ll just top up with them at next year’s draft.

Then Levi Ashcroft and a couple of our academy kids will wipe us out of the 2024 draft.

Peter Wright is really the only key forward for Essendon. He went several games doing nothing, but obviously had some games where he kicked 5 or 6.

I rate Chol more due to his ground level work and speed, personally, but I think both have their strengths and weaknesses as forwards.

Anyway, it’s pretty public that the reason we traded him was his ridiculous contract. Same goes for Brodie and even Lyons. They may be better than players on our list, but they also commanded a greater pay day.

Obviously money was a more important asset for us than the players.

Yeah, I watched most games, was a primary target. Is he great? No, IMO. But he did improved. Put physical pressure on him and he still struggles, still lumbering around, often soft, no mongrel. Some great games, 5-6 goals, but also a lot of games did nothing. Personally, I am happy for him but don't miss him at all.

Oh, and going in to deficit doesn’t affect picks you’ve already traded to another team. Only picks you currently hold in the following years draft.

So if we trade our future first round pick to the Bulldog’s, it’s their pick tied to our finishing position.

Brodies 2 way running got massively exposed in the finals

Ah right, that makes it much better to trade then obviously :thumbsu:

If we are losing Fiorini and Sharp.

We can’t lose Flanders.
Then there's Burgess and Corbett to be a little concerned about. Some nervousness as to the number of good solid players who might depart...and Rankine as well. Would really put a dampener on the retention strength and Dew's appeal to some. Interesting times over the next few weeks.

Playing in a VFL semi-final has put the spotlight on some players that maybe wouldn’t get as much attention.

But I’m surprised there has been no talk of Burgess all year, considering he won the Frost medal in the end.

I think we have to keep Burgess, 100%. He is far more versatile than Corbett. Corbett is a better mark on the lead, but that’s about it. Burgess can play forward and back, and is a good kick. He can lead our VFL forward line or step up and play the same role if needed at AFL.

He just can't beat the best key backs in the AFL.. if he gets a gig, I'll be stoked for him.

Sorry for intruding, but how do the Suns rate Flanders internally?
Obviously I'm sure everyone on here would love him (as most young players are loved) but would he potentially be up for trade or be willing to be traded?

Bonus he is an NT lad so will do nicely building the Suns brand in that zone. Two games a year in the NT possibly.
Wait. Only one home game in the NT isnt it? Two this year was a carryover from last year or 2020??
I better be getting 10 at Metricon and 1 away at gabba on my membership

I can see us letting fiorini go in a mutual agreement being best for him and the club. Seems like if sharp leaves its more the player wanting out and not the club, we get a decent pick and move on. If Flanders was promised midfield position it might be hard for him to ignore but it doesn't seem he really wants out. If we lose a few of these players and it opens up cap space for us to attract a really good player then it might all be worth it. If there isn't a player available I'd rather persist with guys like sharp and Flanders for another year.
As for trading up to pick 1 or 2, wardlaw or tsatas probably overtake Flanders, fiorini, bowes, sharp straight away and maybe we are better off without their big contracts running around in the reserves again

I can understand and somewhat agree with what you've said but the problem is always luring "the really good player" to the GC.
None of the A graders will come here unless we pay overs.

Yeah agree, and we can't offer good money when there's a couple million filling the centre square in the reserves. I hate losing players but maybe a few tough calls and we can land the big fish.
