Expecting Jones compo to be around 47, after our initial R3 pick.

Acres for 47 and 64 probably won't get it done, but neither clubs have a lot of middling picks and I don't think we're wanting to lose 28 given the R2 value at the draft.

If we somehow earned end of 2nd (37), there's your deal - straight swap.
Didn't they offer him like 1-2 years at about $300k (according to rumours)?
They can't value him at a pick higher than 40 while offering a rubbish contract like that.

I'm also disappointed we aren't chasing Sholl, as I saw him as an upgrade on Cottrell and his numbers look better than LOB's, so would be an upgrade in my eyes, but I understand the reasons for not chasing him (well, what I've heard/read).
He's still contracted for next year. We are looking for cheap options and his contracted status increases his trade value. See what happens next year with hopefully Acres and LOB/Cottrell, then see what happens with Sholl end of next year. We might revisit it if we still think he'd be an upgrade in that spot.
I keep reading how people say that players out there we should bring in as they would be better than LOB and Cottrell.

Now this isn't focused on you CNBB but LOB's stats aren't too far different for Josh Daicos' last year (both playing a season as a 22 year old). In fact, many stats LOB is better than Daicos.

Now I'm not saying that LOB will be the same as Josh in 2023 or that stats are the be all and end all. But seriously, LOB had a much improved year in 2022 and is still 22. Plus we didn't use the wings as much as some other teams. Now that could be for a number of reasons. But if people could just calm the farm on a 22 year old and take the wins of how some of our players are progressing after a few covid seasons and multiple changes to coaching staff and so on and so forth, I think we could just really be positive about the gains we have seen in 2022 and the excitement of what is to come over the next few years.

As mentioned, not a knock on you CNBB 👍

Didn't say he was better
No. That is fair.
You didn't. But you obviously rate him very highly.
I also thought you 'd said . "In fact, many state LOB is better than Daicos."

:D
However, I do disagree with your general gist about him and would take Daicos...any Daicos over LOB.

I do hope LOB continues to improve. Of course I do.
But stats or not, he has a long way to go.
Especially re kicking to oppo team members fairly often.

LOB at 22 and Josh Daicos at 22.

I'm not saying LOB is better or will have a season like Josh did in 2023, but bagging out players before they have even matured yet just doesn't sit well with me. And if you look at their stats, I think LOB stacks up well against Josh at the same year.

So when I hear things like, we need to get player A because they are an upgrade, is it really an upgrade if the player keep progressing and is still young?

Cheers bro. But yeah, I rate all our players at the CFC. And tbh, I don't recall anyone last yeah thinking Josh Daicos was much chop 👍

Have watched Sholl a lot live this year playing for the Crows SANFL team and apart from having a nice kick (most of the time) and good endurance, I would say that LOB is definitely more talented with more scope for improvement. I’m not a huge Cottrell fan but I much prefer his hardness at the contest over Sholl and he did make strides this year. Acres is a much better addition than Sholl.

When comparing Daicos in 2021 and Lob in 2022 their isn't a huge difference in the stats.

2022 Daicos starts rotating through the middle part time and his stats improve.

People talk about how our bottom 6 need to improve but look at the Dees bottom 6 last year. They were much better last year when the team was playing awesome footy than this year when they were not as impressive.

Carlton's ability to move the ball, and ability to defend against opposition moving the ball, was really poor at times this year.

People are looking at stronger options on the wings because it's the best way to address the teams biggest weakness.

LOB has improved a lot this year, but in my eyes his biggest issue is his decision making. Watching him play over the last few years there would almost be a bit of anxiety in my stomach when he got the ball as I knew this could go badly. Hopefully it comes with time and him being more comfortable with his role, but I see far to often him either take way to long to decide what to do, or flat out make the wrong decision. I'm not trying to bag the guy, but I just don't think his improvement will be about getting more stats and finding more of the ball like Daicos. It needs to be just knowing what he needs to do once he has it, so hopefully our coaching unit is able to provide that.

So a player offered $250K on a 1 year contract is worth more than pick 47? Hard for Freo to low ball Acres and then ask for the pick that would suggest he should be paid $450K. If. he was coming as a free agent they would be lucky to get pick 47
But he isnt a free agent and he wants to come to carlton, so to get it done they can ask what they want.

Fair chance it'll be p28 and something coming back our way if the jones compo isnt sufficient for Freo

Main board says he asked Essendon for $1.6m

I love that, if true
Friend of mine has extremely precise mail on Essendon, Harry has not been to their facility. Whatever discussions have been had, are clearly not serious by any stretch. Sighted there however, have been Tom Phillips and Roarke Smith. Far cry from Harry McKay I daresay.

I thought he was ok with ball in hand. I was always anxious when the ball was in dispute.

If we applied the same logic to Setters what would we be happy with? I’d say 35-40 would be sufficient. I don’t know that 47 is adequate for Setterfield. Adequate for someone like Dow, perhaps?

Do we trade Dow and take a point downgrade with a Brisbane to get a pick in the mid 30’s to use on Acres or something?
The one with a current contract would be worth more.
Just because Voss won't play Dow doesn't mean other teams are not interested.
Setters is worth bugger-all. If North or * offer him a 2 year deal, they'll get him for free.

Sometimes it's better to make a decision, good or bad and act immediately, especially if the game plan takes out some of the choices.

Good kicks in good teams look better because teammates know where to run to in a specific scenario

Same as others it will sound like bagging the guy but I think the 'timidness' (for want of a better word) does hamper decisions making and indeed kicking as your mind is probably racing rather than being relaxed and focussed. Everything would seem to be moving quicker.

(Not that I would know as I was hard as nails back in my day !! :p :p )

The fact he has to hide in the closet as a Carlton supporter, along with Nick, just doesn't sit well with me.

Good or bad... he makes a decision. There are a lot of dead animals on the road who wouldn't make a decision.
