Again happy to be proven wrong but when it comes out true I’ll be sure to remind you mate 😊
Fair enough. I am no Lachie cheer leader and think his skills are questionable, but he is still in our best side.
I just cannot see the club off loading him for no return or tearing up his contract - that is what you are implying correct.

If no suitable trade can be found they’re willing to pay out his contract.. clubs know of his issues just depends if anyone wants to take the punt on him

I don't get the criticisms with our professionalism etc. If anything Beveridge has taken a strong hand to any behind the scenes shit. He turfed Minson, stringer and dahlhaus much to our support base and the media's dismay.
I am expecting the same with Hunter.

We can call him out on his wacky tactics but I can't cop that he's allowed anything too bad to slip without a strong response.

So someone at the club is destroying our bargaining position on a potential trade by letting this out? Why would any club trade for him if he’ll be a DFA?

Yeah, he does move on trouble well and you have to for club culture, doesn’t matter who they are.

Not sure Will Minson belongs in that group though?

2 years for Bowes to cover his contract also fits nicely with our OOC players in 2024. We can just take the 2 year hit but won't affect the contracts we offer to Naughton, Smith, JUH, English etc, when they all come out of contract.
What's to stop us trading for him on inflated money then extending his contract next year and rebalancing the money over a longer period? System is open to rorting, much like FA contracts.

Correct me if I'm wrong but current out of contract on the main list we have:

Dunkley
Duryea
Johannisen
Cordy
Schache
Wallis
Martin
Butler

Need to lose at least 5 of these to make room for Jones, Lobb, and 3 draftees.

Anyone want to guess who they'll be?

Obvious: Dunkley
Likely: Butler, Schache
Rumoured to be staying: Johannisen, Martin

That leaves two of Duryea, Cordy and Wallis, unless we trade out someone under contract (Crozier?) or pay someone out (Hunter?).

Predictions?

Duryea has been offered another year, Cordy offered another contract and Wallis likely to go around again, maybe downgraded to rookie list freeing up 1 list spot

Schache Martin Butler and Dunkley are likely off, =5

JJ and Crozier looking at options, so one of those will go although we want JJ to stay and offered him a contract

Lobb and Jones onto list with maybe 1 more recruit if we have list space and minimum 3 picks in draft ?

The ideal situation this offseason is that we end up with two first round draft picks for Dunkley and take the 2 this year and next to the draft. We need to do that for a number of reasons a) Darcy and JUH consumed our entire draft hand preventing us grabbing a number of mid-range players and b) (off-field issues aside) Hunter and JJ and probably a couple of others are past their production peak. It is time to balance trading for needs versus recruiting for the future.

All is not lost tho, if Garcia, West, Buku, Cleary and a few other young players stand up we can maintain our window while bringing in the next generation.

While everyone is disappointed in Dunks leaving, this could be a moment like Wingard at Port. They managed to turn him leaving into Rozee and Butters.

For all the data nerds out there like me, I decided to honor the Queen's memory on my day off to do a deep dive into players currently on an AFL list that have been on another AFL list throughout their career.
I just wanted to see how we compared to other teams and whether we had a lot of players wanting to leave our club since this guy named Josh I met in Brisbane said we have such bad culture.

I'm sure I've missed some (let me know if I have) but the results I have are below. It doesn't take into account any retirements or delistings already announced in 2022, it is just the 2022 lists from the beginning of the season (we would lose three from our list if so, but then add Dunks and possibly others).
I guess you can read it a several ways for various teams, they either mismanage their players, organised strange team building camps (GWS? Adelaide?) or they draft well and have surplus quality players to their needs (Geelong?). I like to think we fall in the later but you can decide on that.
Generally, it seems it's best to fall in the middle somewhere and not be at either end of the table, judging by where the finals teams are positioned.

I've also attached the raw data if anyone is interested because as a wise man once said to me "without data you're just another dickhead with an opinion".

Enjoy. Go Dogs!

We may just see the strongest of responses this off-season.
And all of the surprises may not have come out yet

I'm sorry, but what bargaining position did you think we had to begin with? If we traded him the pick we'd receive would likely be passed in the draft, such is how low it would be.

Can you do an analysis to assess correlation with ladder position and finals success?

Happy to be proven wrong but have been told he definitely won’t be at the club next year take it how you want whether it was the Carlton mad Monday or he was just out with Carlton players drinking because he’s told his team mates he’s no longer drinking etc..

We’ll see I’m just passing on the info from a reliable source you don’t have to believe it
Thanks Smily Boy for the info. I really appreciate any inside info, even if it doesnt pan out. Remember people, the more we shoot the messenger the less goss we get, and it’s a key reason why some ITK posters are currently on sabbatical from this board. For what it’s worth where there is smoke there is fire and things are definitely pointing to the club having serious issues with Hunter…entirely possible they are looking to offload him and he’s working his arse off to impress another prospective club (if it comes to that)…

Bowes would have to agree to it first. He still has some power over his contract. I doubt he'd want the money over 3 years instead of 2.

Don't think many were shooting the messenger, just questioning some aspects of the story (namely him skipping the Bulldogs Mad Monday for the Carlton one instead, which would have occurred weeks earlier but sounds ridiculous either way, and brings the credibility of the info into doubt).

Loose lips sink ships.
Eventually we all find out what happens.
Why people need to sabotage the club in a Judas like fashion, to be known as an “ITK” to a bunch of strangers, on a website the majority of footy fans laugh at, is truly amazing.

I would want our medical team all over Bowes if we wanted a sniff at this. He was a terrific junior, showed real talent at AFL level but hasn’t established himself back in the firsts since his injury. At his best there is no chance he isn’t playing firsts. He’s versatile, strong bodied, comfortable with body contact and plays outside reasonably well. For every Will Brodie there is a Will Setterfield. Both terrific junior mids (same draft), Setterfield was the superior at NEAFL although both very good but injuries tore Setterfields game to shreds. Something smells very fishy with this pick 7 bonus and it isn’t just the $800k per I would fear they may be trying to offload.
