I have a good feeling about this one...Jaeger is a very clever player and now quite experienced, with natural leadership and awareness; he almost comes in as a Dave Mundy-type understudy...just without Dave being there (gulp!). I think he has a lot of attributes that go unnoticed, but mostly will add a bit of steel/grunt back in there, and with Jackson potentially playing as a hybrid mid...could be some interesting combos next year and some potential headaches for opposition mids.

Easy to make predictions, but on paper, for me....looks exciting :)

The other thing that Jaeger has that separates him from the "big fish" trades that have given us PTSD is that he is the ultimate professional and fits the good character mould we've been building. I actually think he's going to slot straight into the leadership group.

This is going to be a an excellent pick in hindsight. Old freo would not have taken the opportunity when it arose (certainly not successfully anyway). The club seeing the chance to bring an A grade talent in, executing that chance and doing it for cheap is a really really good sign and what separates the good clubs from the bad.

In short, I love everything about this trade

Awww. Was a bit worried about cost and opportunity cost when I found out it was a possibility we could have him, but now that he’s ours, I hope he does well and we all get around him. (The exposed guns help 😂😜!)

I can’t imagine what a crazy loop he’s been thrown for, imagine having to make such a life changing decision and only having 72 hours’ notice! But he’s done a pivot and seems to be excited to be here, so I hope he’s embraced by the purple army.

I also like the language he’s using about helping develop the young players, it sounds like this is a natural focus for him, which is great for our young kids.

Yea crying out for some leadership. Fyfie doesnt look like a guy whose really a leader. Its time to move the captaincy on to Andy or Caleb or Alex.

So hawthorn farked themselves trying to ship him off for 19..
"The moral shackles came off after he heard the gws trade possibility"..
Love a good ending 🤣
I actually really like that he felt he owed Hawthorn to stay and develop their young players despite interest from us during a time we were already ahead of their development curve. he strikes me as someone with an eye to the future, and I wonder whether he has an interest in coaching post-footy - then again, he also says he doesn’t watch much footy, so who knows! 😬

anyway, he sounds like a really solid citizen and will be a good experienced head that the younger guys will learn from.

Will be a good get for your midfield. For all the negatives Hawthorn supporters post about him. Not many average more than him in the 5 or 6 core midfield stats.

edit:

To steal a quote from reddit.

Players to match and/or exceed Jaegers averages for all of the following 6 stats: DSP, RB, IF, CLR, TK and CP…in recent seasons:

  • 2022: Clayton Oliver, Marcus Bontempelli, Touk Miller, Rory Laird.
  • 2021: Clayton Oliver, Jack Steele.

I reckon he'll be a great fit for you as your 4th best mid or so ( behind the stars you have ) , does the hard stuff, is a good leader and top bloke.

Wish him all the best and wouldn't mind seeing him win a flag at Freo. Always had a soft spot for Jaeger and felt for him given injury really hindered his potential ceiling.

The whole interview is really good. Only one sentence was a bit cringe, about our young players crying out for leadership. They pretty well leaders already themselves.

Don't blame him for thinking otherwise. There isn't many clubs in the competition where he walks into them and the culture is completely run by a bunch of kids.
