I used to play under 17’s and the boys at Coburg Newlands would wear their socks up because they had shiv’s in them. Never found out if it was true or if they were just trying to scare us. Didn’t work because I played for Keon Park and we had some pretty tough kids lol.

I played in the DVFL as a kid.

What years we talking?

" I was given a compression sleeve to wear over my ...... to help reduce swelling during activity "😃
Do they make them that small?

Was it really a compression bandage or is that what the doctors at the clinic told you so they wouldn’t embarrass you?:p

Late 90’s. You might remember Keon Park getting kicked out of the finals because we had an overage kid playing for us. None of us knew and we found out in the finals.

Time period is about right. I vaguely remember some kurfuffle about finals.

However I don’t remember playing Keon Park, we were probably different divisions. I played for Lalor and I do recall playing against Coburg and their being an ‘incident’ where parents entered the field of play.

Keon Park v Coburg was where there was an all in brawl, parents and all. Next time we played police parked next the oval.

Lalor Bloods? One of my best mates played for them. North supporter too. I got to know them through him but I can’t remember their names now. One of the kids nicknames was prickles

Lol. No, but he played for another under 17’s team a few years earlier. He didn’t have a birth certificate and he didn’t know exactly how old he was.

Edit- he did have a bit of a beard but that wasn’t that uncommon in the U17’s.

Cared for alot of refugees back in the day all born on Jan.1st.
Fed.govt.assigns them this date as they literally don't know what date they were born. More common amongst the African refugees.

I played with a 17 year old that had ink. No dodgy birth certificate stuff, just a bit loose.

It was the Bloods, however I was only there 3 years.

Kid with beard & tatt's ?

Back in my school days playing AGS footy we’d often come across this very scenario when playing against PEGS. Didn’t stop us pantsing them but it would always be a shock as a 14-15 yr old lining up on a dude with a full beard.

We used to suspect the Dandenong North kids with full beards playing in Under 16s may have been overage. Especially when they drove to the games in their Sandman panelvans.

Must be something to do with that part of town, Doveton were the same.

I was going to say Doveton Lions brought an early end to my junior football career. The message reached us that they wanted to put a few of us into the hospital next time we played them and I suddenly found I had a lot of exams I needed to focus on.

Expect that from PEGS. Gangitano play 1st XVIII ?
Woudda been handy off the bench !

I never thought twice about it as a kid when I actually played footy, but now we’re discussing it, the idea of running around for 12+km with socks up to my knees sounds bloody horrible. Surely it’s just a matter of time until everyone except for maybe rucks just wear ankle lengths.
long compression socks are pretty good to run around in!

I played against a team where a bunch of players had beards. Given I never played past U12's it is obvious in retrospect that some dodgy stuff was going on... pity as it was one of the main reasons I just gave up (not that I feel I was destined for great heights), I remember just looking around the field and "nope".
