In coffee-related news, I can confirm that BOTH Daicos boys now visit the bakery and have loyalty cards. Speaks volumes about their character. Mind you, the young lady serving (who is a massive Pies fan and thrilled that they are now locals) agreed that Almond Lattes were a poor choice and simply backs up the theory that you should never meet your heroes.

Carry on, as you were.

Almond milk shows the dedication to diet and keeping a low body fat %.

After a while it's not that bad tbh, except when you buy a carton of it that "separates".
Then it's very Almond tasting 🤨 and tastes like crap.

Breaking news: Daicos brothers enjoy nut juice.

My Geelong mate follows Jen on Twitter and loves the updates and hates that the Cat dont have anyone dong the same.
geelong have closed sessions don't they? Not sure where else they train apart from KP

Pre-season training: January 18th.

I admit, I wasn’t sure there would be training this morning given that Noble and Fly were at the tennis last night. Suppose not their fault the match was delayed because of the storm and didn’t finish til near midnight; but both were there. And training did start on time. I’m glad I did decide to go.

Drizzily morning but not cold so I didn’t bring a jacket, even if it was raining. It wasn’t too bad and they may as well get used to training/playing in the wet.

The only players that weren’t on the track was:

  • Howe (but he was walking around, didn’t look too bad)
  • Begg (saw him pop out, apparantely had ice on the calf/ankle on Monday, so suppose that answers that)
  • Harrison
  • Kreuger (he was hanging around in his sling)
  • McCreery
  • Dean (not sure his issue, but he popped outside briefly)

Rehab:
Macrae – Did some work on the boundary, including stretches to flex his back muscles
Moore – More running as he builds up his workload.

Cameron left the track before match play began, I’m not sure what happened to him; but saw him in casual clothes, then he walked out with what appeared was a medico toward the carpark. Going for scans?

McStay left the track, but returned shortly but didn’t parttake with the squad, instead did some work with the rehabbers, did some running from what I could see. Potentially a rolled ankle.

Pressure day as they worked through tackling, and later on was a big drills where they all participated in a pressure act.
The rucks (Cox, Cameron and Steene) did ruck work with Josh Frasier (prior to Cameron disappearing from the track) Including some 1-1 contest work between them.

There was some early drills, but feels a lot of the session — moreso today than before now, was focused on match play. I think this will be more coming over the next few weeks as we build up more and more into match play situations, then do 18 v 18 stuff.

Observations:

  • Carmichael was quite vocal, more than I ever realised. He would applaud and say “good lads” and amp them up as they come off for a break between drills.
  • Hill is very skillful; there was this moment where it looked like the ball was going to go over the boundary, but he marked it ON the line.
  • Mitchell leading the kids, and staying on the ground to do extra things with Carmichael, Allan and Ryan post session. His leadership skills shining through, in trying to bring the kids along on the journey.
  • Reef looked pretty good today. Leading and marking superbly up forward. Seems they plan on doing a De Goey, where they develop him up forward (at 194cm who can blame them) until he builds his tank to run throigh the midfield.
  • De Goey has been wearing a blue cap, which must mean he isn’t 100% in full training yet. He is close, but seems to do most of the session, then do a running session. Building him up slowly to full fitness.
  • Ryan isn’t lightly built. His shoulders are actually pretty big for his age, I reckon he could play if called upon. Just seems, maybe because he played v men in SANFL, he is a bit more hardened than most kids.

In the final drill which I briefly mentioned; there was little goal posts planted in the ground. The squad was sorted in 4 teams. Black. White. Blue and green vests. The aim was to try to the ball past your opposition. From the defence to offence, this was run by Leppa who is now the forwards coach.

This drill was lots of fun to watch, and record. There was lots of yelling and support, each rotation happened pretty quickly.

Once everyone finished up, Mitchell did some 1-1 work with Carmichael, Ryan and Allan. Also Cox and Steene worked on some marking with Josh Frasier, whom were the last to leave the track. A few players came over and got some photos with some kids who were nearby. Ginni had a special fan, with #33 on his back.

That’s it, one more session to go for the week. Friday.

Thanks a million, Jen.
So Friday should be a 9:15am start?
