Any news yet where Davis is playing in 2023. He seems to have vanished off
The face of the earth
I just realised you were asking about Ben, not Phil (did he really only play 18 games for us?).
Ben has signed with North Melbourne reserves under Tom Lynch.

Is Mark Keane a (2 inch taller) replacement for Tom Doedee, if The Dude doesn’t sign on for 2024?
I would have thought it was more an immediate need, obviously he's being tried out to replace McAsey's departure and it's seems once we've assessed him he'll likely be upgraded to the main list if seen as suitable. Having him on the rookie list gives us the opportunity to upgrade him before other clubs come calling.

I see him as someone who is breathing down the neck of Butts and Murray and to a lesser extent, Worrall.

No reason why he can't take a spot in the 22 should his form warrant it.

On the surface, a significant upgrade on Fish.

Could replace McAsey with a sack of potatoes

If he can finish a two km time trail is a good start

who's spot in the 22 do you see him taking?

I’m keen 😉 for MK to play as soon as he is up to speed but as Doedee and even Butts are still to put pen to paper I think he is ‘insurance’ for them rather than a player (McAsey) who was never going to be playing for the Crows in 2024. I think Murray is already signed for two more seasons beyond this one, so I don’t see MK replacing him.

Reckon we've done well recently. But for this rebuild will fail because we have that 4 of 5 year wasteland from a few years ago.
Hard to argue that our team would be a hell of a lot stronger/talented/better if we;

picked butters over C.Jones
Picked Duursma over McHenry
picked K. Pickett over McAsey
picked Todd Marshall over Jordan Gallucci

But doesn't need too many KPD injuries to get a run. After Butts, Murray and Worrell, there's Keane, Michalanney and Borlase.
Yes, and there will still be Covid protocols this year, so multiple players can be excluded like the Weagles last year.

Luke Nankervis signs on until 2025.
Good stuff.
Hopefully Butts is next…
Butts leaving worries me more than Doedee, in that I think its more likely (but also the consequences of him going and the hole it would leave in the team is not insignificant either).

I agree that Butts leaving is more of a worry than Doedee but why do you think it is more likely?

In all 4 cases we went for a specific type of player, rather than best available. We should stop doing that.

Playing in our defensive setup means you get belted up a lot more than in other clubs defenses (ours leaves our defenders having to put their bodies on the line more and being wide open to being jumped into more). He was mighty sore for a lot of last year. As were a few others (ROB, Doedee, Dawson the other bad ones). If it happens again this year I could see him thinking to himself, stuff this, I'm going elsewhere.

This feels incredibly unlikely to me.

I'm not saying that it couldn't happen, but some detailed comparison of different defensive structures driving him to change teams just feels really unlikely.

I hope NWM is still homesick. Our 2024 first would be a fair price and we get rid of it before a potential bid on Welsh.

Day won’t leave Hawks.

The online article is updated , here’s our baby 🙂 The Fremantle board has been melting for a year.
