That’s the exact dimensions of MCG and is on the Draft Masterplan Update issued today (14/2/23)

Larger by about 2m actually ... and has the MCG's east-west orientation.

Probably just a coincidence.

Has anyone told them about the new reserve that will be happening on the opposite corner (and connect with the Torrens linear park)?
They will end up with MORE open space, including ovals open to the public and more facilities and opportunities for their children/grandchildren.

Hopefully there is a link through to here directly from the Crows new facility. Once on the Torrens linear park, that links with Adelaide Oval. Bikes, E-Scooters or even walking without needing to cross any roads or deal with traffic lights would make the new Crows HQ more game-day friendly. I know that isn't necessarily the idea - but being able to pair up an SANFL or AFLW game in the future with a game at AO at night would be great. With the announcement of more car parking, even a park and ride option with express buses would get people visiting the facility, when they otherwise might not (and get cars away from AO). If it is a place where Crows members know they can just rock up to and gain easy access to AO, or meet other Crows fans to watch and talk about the game, it becomes much more member-friendly and more a club - even if after match functions continue officially at Adelaide Oval with Sauce.

whats the dotted ring? is that where the oval was to be or where the oval is moving to in the plan revision?
The dashes (dotted) area wil be the extent of the Crows developed area (my interpretation). The pale green oval is the proposed new area, while the darker olive area is where the oval was going to be and shows the extra space and treed area saved for the locals.
The area to the east, which will end up being shared car park with the resited community hub will initially be a huge hole in the ground as it is the ‘cut and cover’ part of the South Road tunnels.

I guess this is still somewhat related

Just pull the funding and let the ACC sort out their own swimming pool mess

I’m just going to hazard a guess that given the Aquatic Centre was built in the late 60’s, it was built before any of the NIMBYs moved into North Adelaide.

**** them, I say.

Slightly different to the original artist’s concept drawings… the new community hub building isn’t as close to the main oval.View attachment 1607135
Isn't that better?
It alleviates traffic flow on Ashwin Parade (Residents coming from the south would cut through the new carpark)
They still have their playground too. And how often would the secondary oval even be used? Obviously with the E/W orientation and being thicker it's the MCG. So what, heavily for 2-5 weeks a year and sporadically 47-50 weeks a year (all of which for 2 hours at a time)?

Residents lose a skate park, and a soccer pitch. But gain better green space and alleviates traffic issues.

It's a net win for the locals.

It looks like we haven't had to give up too much in this first edit. For me the second MCG size oval must be non-negotiable. We didn't have it at the Brompton location, but that had different benefits.

I'm very interested in seeing the final plans here, in the Aquatic Centre site and the Brompton site, the plans had supporters flowing through the club (or at least a walkway area) kind of like a scaled back version of the Adelaide Oval southern gates, through to the oval.

Food, member services, retail etc. watch training from inside, outside, whatever.

These plans do still have that entrance plaza over near the old stands but Thebarton has probably the main entrance and carparks on the opposite side of the ground, and the mockups have a coffee cart type thing external to the club serving people, maybe just a shot of how things would operate on a busy day.

But I do hope the whole place does feel welcoming and isn't designed to keep supporters at one end and the training bunker at the opposite side as plans are further watered down to suite the community but not necessarily the Crows community.

Also did John Olsen come out and promise some sort of member facility in the days after the negative feedback to the exclusion of one initially? Looking forward to see what comes of that.

Pleased to see the second Oval remain in tact.

I think the point that gets lost is AFL players most of the time play on immaculate surfaces so the main Oval will need to be looked after.

During the middle of winter I think the second oval will get plenty of use by the AFLW and SANFL teams for training. In a few years we might have a SANFLW team as well.

Surprisingly the club is re-installing lights at West Lakes at some stage this year, to enable the AFLW side to train in the evening there (last season they were doing their pre-season training at Karen Rolton Oval)

Lol the 5031 Action Group on 5AA outlining why they don't like the proposal. Traffic (not the crows issue), second oval (apparently that takes away their community space despite being able to use it except during training/playing times) and advertising (huh?). Rowey rightly went after her.
Used Alberton as an example of AFL clubs that only need 1 oval, so why do the Crows need 2? Jesus.

Did they give their Go Fund Me a plug?

Biased (and incorrect) info put (obviously by a NIMBY) in the Thebarton Oval entry on Wikipedia:

The SANFL was granted 5 million dollars from the State Government towards developing Thebarton Oval for South Australian Football in 2020[4] however, controversially, and at odds with local residents in 2022 the Australian Football League (a body based in Melbourne which changed its name from the Victorian Football League in 1990) member, the Adelaide Crows Football Club are moving to take over Thebarton Oval, demolish the Bob Hank Stand and remove the Oval and neighboring Kings Park to build their facilities, which is being supported by the West Torrens Council Mayor Michael Coxon. At odds with local residents is false. Time to edit the page

At this point I'm convinced they're being deliberately obtuse. How many times does it need to be said that Kings Reserve will still be public access? And Thebby itself will become public access, unless they're training on it.

They're angry over something that isn't happening?

I wonder how many Poort supporters/infiltrators/agent provocateurs are in the Action Group or who have donated to their Go Fund Me.

Go Fund Me or Go Fu.. Me?
