Pretty good analysis by Duffers here. I think Ginbey, Hewett, Chesser and Culley will be better next year. This year will be rough until the new guard start pushing the senior guys out on pure form. Gaff and Kelly definitely would want to perform better than they did in the practice match.

I'm not listening to Cornes, so reality is I have no idea what he actually said, but assuming he wasn't comparing the injury issues on the weekend to last season (because he runs with the 'they were all fat' line for 2022 - and doesn't like to look at the other obvious problems) then I'm guessing he was wrong.

No Nic (injured/managed). Replaced by Bwillams/Jamo. Then Bwilliams has to withdraw, replaced by Hedwards who then had back spasms so didn't play
No Darling, was essentially going to be replaced up forward by Williams, and then as above by likely Barrass or Gov as Edwards covered for them.

So our issues everywhere, were very much structural issues. We won't be dominant, but we will look a lot more competitive when we have a backup ruck and 2nd key forward playing (that may be the same person, or 2 players - but either way our structure will be significantly improved).

Very funny tidbit from Lecca here on the West Coast brains trust trying to use pre-social media methods to kill a story like they did in the good old days:

“I remember ringing ‘Stapes’ at the club and I was like, ‘Mate I’m getting this message sent around’ and he said don’t worry I’ll shut it down, like he thought he could shut down Facebook.

“I said it’s out there I just want to put an apology out, let me do it right now. Half an hour later he rings me back sheepishly and says, ‘Might be time to put that apology out’.

At least we know why their communication is so poor if they didn't understand social media as recently as 2018.

Lol - I never heard about the apology or saw this message except for on this forum. A bit of a storm in a teacup.

So he had to make a grovelling apology for dropping the c-bomb?

Wtf is the world coming to?

I still think Mark LeCras owes an apology to everyone that has never sworn in their life.

TSDR (Too Short, didnt read); Yeo has a new fitness coach that has pushed them very hard this off season.

Honestly, how the * does this get published as an artical? I've seen longer Tweets than this.

To be honest I was just sharing as it's kinda the first media mention of our new S&C guy.

Wasnt a knock on you mate, just the diabolical state of what passes as media these days.

Put it this way- the WCE spin department could have probably done better.

It's the end result of print media regurgitating radio and TV interviews. As for why the TV interview didn't scratch below the surface, Rhinos interview on Backchat is fairly insightful. He has a very difficult time getting access to players and has all but given up on attending the usual press conferences as they're just the same thing over and over.

I look forward to seeing whether Schoey can get Ginbey on his podcast as he operates independently, but West Coast are like a vault with players and information.

Just read that; seems the expert opinions are a little more positive than BF opinions.

True, they are more positive on our end of season ladder position (just miss finals) - but relatively equal with the board sentiment on what that means (a bit of a nothing year, with older players still our key players and not yet enough quality youth to consider the rebuild complete or on the way to completion).

Also true. But what they recognise is that, even in a rebuilding year, our home ground advantage and softer draw should see us pick up a few wins here and there, which I would argue is far more valuable to our younger players and winning culture than one or two spots higher in the draft. We've loaded up in the last two years, if we can get games into those kids and establish a winning gameplan, I don't think we'll be down as long as some people do.

What an odd concept.

22 players that we’ve picked in best young player sides (which no one remembers) over a decade. Are they the players that were best while they were young? Or is that the best 22 that could be put out today?
