They could have used an attractive dog like a golden retriever

Nothing wrong with a Pitty. Much more appropriate in describing Nicks demeanor.

I bet you that Premiership success is the only thing that he wishes to define him.

If only we could get a hold of an Anderson, Brayshaw, Rowell, Serong type to give the young man a support mate. Pendles can’t keep doing it for too long.

Easy fix. By next season Sidey, Adams and quite possibly Howe and even Pendles will be done shortly. That’s where the monies will come to pay Nick and also look for support for him in luring a couple of “A” graders.

He is actually fast as well as being a highly skilled ball magnet.
His old man wasn’t fast and neither is Josh. He is the complete package.
Look at Pendles and look at Nick.

Moves the same uses his first three steps to get free and then steadies . . . scanning as he's taking possession and ready to execute instantly.

He's mentally streets ahead of 95% of his contemporaries.

God I hate autocomplete grrrrrrrrrrr.

They certainly have similarities. Sometimes it can be easy to confuse them at first glance.

Twitter going with “he took 10 kick outs” when he didn’t.

Seen a lot of these comments.

Saints kicked 10 points. There's no way he took all the kick outs.

Shows you that people don't watch games, or can even be bothered to check the stats so it doesn't make them sound like a fool.

Can't wait for Kane Cornes to talk about how kick-ins shouldn't be a stat on every footy show he’s on this week.

No amount of kick ins would have made any difference. It was when he was doing everything else that cuts teams apart. I think oppo team supporters are just gobsmacked at how good he is but just can't accept it

He’s just a freak.

Anyone got footage of when he turned a whole bunch of them inside out, then passed the ball out wide to the wing (towards the camera). It was next level.

My rugby following mate who was watching with me (who doesn’t know that much about afl) said that he’s on the next level to everyone else on the field.
That move… The kick was astonishing — had to land in a square metre from, what, 35-40 away and do so in perfect timing. Never looked like missing. Is he the best kick to position in the comp?

The afl app has a stat column for kick ins if you go to advanced and add it as a column. He took 5. Without that he still has 37 🤷

I'm not one who watches a lot of 'other' footy but you would have to imagine he would be at least equal best never seen any player pass like he can in 50+ years of watching the game.

Not to mention, if he wasn’t taking those kick-ins he’d likely be involved in bringing the ball up from half-back.

And that's why our window is so narrow. Unlikely all 3 perform at the level Sides and Pendles are now.

Have to flag this year.

He took 5 of them, the stat is available on the AFL app.

Still I don’t get the fuss over the kick in stat when no one complaints about taking a kick after the ball went out on the full.

Hopefully he takes those kicks too.

Bucks was a better kick in his dress shoes as coach than the team...I remember his 50m bullet passes too, but yeah Nick is up there.

Sides and Adams can be replaced. We want Ed Allan and Fin Macrae to surpass them in their respective wing and inside midfielder roles.

Pendles is the big one. But based on his consistency he's got another 5 years in him. Play him till he's 40.

You must have missed Buckley then. No one touches him for consistency of accurate field kicking from literally anywhere within 60 metres of his position. He was like a robot with a pin point radar that extended much further than pretty much any other mid. I don't expect to see a better field kick than him again.

I think Pendles could play another few years, but the problem is expecting consistent elite level midfield play. There's a reason he was being moved back, and even though he's somewhat rejuvenated in the midfield this season, it's obviously much more taxing on the body and more likely to lead to an earlier retirement than if he was strolling around at half back every game.

Buckley was inclined to canon the ball off his team mates chest because he would launch a 50 meter kick from about 25 meter range and fire it flat

Watch Pendles pass to Sidey in the 2010 GF replay :hearts::hearts::hearts:

Watch Nick's pass to his brother across and forward on the other side of the ground from last year :hearts::hearts::hearts:

Both deliveries were dead accurate for time, pace and velocity.

Loved Bucks and his field kicking but seriously he had brain farts at short range some times.

I was always half expecting smaller team mates to be completely knocked off their feet by his missiles.

The burst is interesting. I don't think he would necessarily test out amazing in any sprint test results, but has some nice short space explosiveness happening that was not as evident last year. I don't think it was that evident in juniors either. It does make some of the GAJ comps a little more relevant if he makes that a more prominent part of his arsenal and could make him even more difficult to tag when they eventually move him to full time mid.

Except the problem with the dinky kicks you see from Pendles and Nick is they can and do get picked off with a bit of high level anticipation by a defender. You don't pick off Buckley's passes unless you are literally perfectly positioned as he kicks it. Calling his bullet passes an issue because professional footballers couldn't handle the speed at which the ball hit their chest made me laugh. I remember very well watching some very average Collingwood players inability to handle some of his kicks. And AFAIC none of the blame for that is on Buckley whatsoever. Give me his style of kicking all day every day. I think most players if asked would always prefer a bullet pass on the chest over a floater, even if perfectly timed and weighted. I certainly did when I played albeit at junior level.
