Any update on the Hughwitte injury?

I read he got his ankle stood on? Any worse than that for those that saw it or any updates from the club on this?

The eagles have tried several versions of farming out players in the wafl.
1987-1998 local players stayed at their wafl clubs and interstate players were drafted by local clubs depending on ladder position.Eagles won two premierships.

In 1999 Claremont aligned with West Coast.veteran players were allowed to play for their local wafl clubs unless it was South Freo who were aligned with Dockers.Caremont ditched this idea as they failed to make the finals and lack of opportunity for local players.

2000 and 2001West Coast aligned with East Perth kind of.EastPperth only had interstate recruits play with them .in 2000 East Perth only had 7 plus Cox play.in 2001 it was 7 plus Turnball&Wilson.West Coast no premierships and East Perth two premierships. This alignment worked for East Perth as they only had to mange 2-7 eagles at any one time.Other clubs hated it so pulled the plug on this before the start of 2002.

2002-2012 all players reasigned to local clubs and Eagles win 2006 premiership
.
2013-2019 West Coast and East Pperth full alignment,East perth did not win a premiership and got weaker every year as players left who could not get a game and having to play certain West Cast players in the league side that were not up to wafl level.Eagles win 2018 premiership.

2019-2023 Beagles stand alone team. This has not worked. It looked good in 2019 but as soon as covid hit in 2020 the Beagles folded .It has been hard to re-establish a Wafl side.Biggest problem is how many wafl standard players do the Eagles need.Reasons to play for the Beagles would be money.Maybe a fringe player who can't get a game at other wafl teams..A Wafl standard player would only play for a wafl team as they are playing to win. Also a chance to win a premiership. If you are a really good wafl player you will get a game in a wafl team.At the eagles list cloggers will be in front of you unless some injuries and otherwise you will be playing country or ammos.

Even the top-ups are having their own injury crisis. Of those players that were unavailable: Garlett is one of our three top-ups with AFL experience, Sumich was last year’s captain, Henderson and McGee were vice-captains, Burke was the leading goalscorer, McCarthy and Johnstone were not far behind him, Collins and Cutbill have NEAFL experience.

So the top-ups that played on Saturday were the last remaining of the top-ups. It’s truly a perfect storm at the moment, albeit there needs to be some in-depth look at whether or not the storm is just terrible luck or something else.

The year is 2026:

"We're just unlucky gaiz. You can't judge a coach on team performance when he's missing all his key players. We've had an unprecedented run of bad luck this year.

Once McGovern, Naitanui and Kemp get back, I'm with Simmo and think this list could push for a flag"

Thoughts from Will Schofield at the start of his footy cast pod today regarding the WAFL team. Probably has the most authority to talk on the subject, being he's experienced just about every "version" of a West Coast AFL listee playing in the WAFL over the last 15 years.

Interesting comments on how Peel & Freo make things work, specifically mentioning Matt Rosa and his role in managing/juggling Peel & Freo AFL listed players quite successfully.

Best part of the eagle’s game is watching the young guys develop & showing we didn’t waste our picks in the past few years. Another good draft and we will be back in business in a couple of years time.

A hamstring strain generally occurs as a result of muscle overload, such as when you are running, and your leg is fully stretched out just before your foot strikes the ground. Overload can occur when you are not fit enough.

A previous injury to the hamstring muscle can leave scar tissue where it has attempted to heal. This scar tissue can affect the function of the tendons and cause them to have to work harder during certain movements. Older players can suffer badly with scar tissue and find it harder to push their bodies to the required level of specific sports.

A lot of the injuries we are experiencing at present aren’t just due to fitness, but you need to question the team’s fitness.

In saying all that they are running out games better than we did last year

If an alignment with Perth can’t get up, what about this:

For concessions re: the ability to recruit more established players, WC doesn’t participate in WAFL finals.

In response, the WAFL clubs make a commitment to field a combined side during finals from the league sides that didn’t make finals.

Duffield interviewed the WAFC chairman this morning and among other things our WAFL side was discussed. The below article covers the possibility of mid season recruiting concessions which was raised and adds Nisbett’s position on those

His comments seem quite combative and whilst they’re perhaps justifiable based on his experience dealing with the clubs he might be better to at least be a tad more open to talking to them

It also gives me the impression that maybe the way he deals with the WAFL clubs might partly explain why we haven’t been able to get a better arrangement. Simply put, their issue might be with Trev moreso than the club itself

West Australian Football Commission chairman Wayne Martin has flagged the possibility of mid-season rule changes to enable West Coast to strengthen their WAFL team after they were annihilated 34.13 (217) to 7.6 (48) by West Perth on the weekend.
The issue will be raised at a meeting of WAFL clubs, the WAFC and the two AFL clubs on Wednesday in the wake of a spate of injuries that have decimated the Eagles AFL and WAFL teams.

The Eagles have up to a dozen unavailable players on both of their AFL and WAFL lists.

Only six AFL listed players played WAFL on the weekend. All were youngsters and one, Elijah Hewett, injured an ankle before he had a possession.

Eagles chief executive Trevor Nisbett was sceptical as to whether the other clubs would allow a shift, saying the history of how the clubs viewed the Eagles WAFL team indicated they would block it.

Eagles chief executive Trevor Nisbett was sceptical as to whether the other clubs would allow a shift, saying the history of how the clubs viewed the Eagles WAFL team indicated they would block it.

Asked if the club would apply for an easing of restrictions, Nisbett was guarded.

“Every time we do it gets rejected,” Nisbett told CODE Sports. “We have been down this path before.

“We have been saying that we need better recruiting rules. They have given us some more points and they have done some other things but it still restricts what we can do from a recruiting viewpoint.

“We have kept Jackson Nelson on the WAFL team, we have recruited Alec Waterman and Jarrod Garlett came back who was on our list a couple of years ago, he came back from Kalgoorlie – that has been the extent of our ability to recruit.

“Some of the young guys we have got playing have shown a fair bit of ability but none of them have played WAFL so we are in the same position as soon as we get injuries. And we are never going to go through a season without injuries. It is just how many and who (gets injured) too.

“That is some of our reasoning and unfortunately it falls on deaf ears when it comes to how the WAFL clubs view us and how the WAFC in the past have viewed our team.”

He continued: “I don’t think it helps the WAFL competition one bit, the way it is structured at the present stage. If the WAFL clubs allowed us to adjust the rules I would be very surprised given their history.

“I am sure it will be a topic of conversation if they want it to be (at the meeting on Wednesday). We were hopeful we would have a full list to choose from for the majority of the season but within two weeks we are back to having five kids playing”

Nisbett added of the Eagles’ injury run: “You just can’t fathom how these things happen sometimes.”

Old man WAFL clinging on to the past. Scared that a strong Eagles reserves will destroy the integrity of the comp so they'd rather take us out at the recruitment table and let the farcical results do it instead.

Just ban us from finals and let us have normal WAFL recruiting rules you plebs. Not a single person wants the Eagles reserves to win the WAFL flag, we just want a reasonable development system that doesn't amount to an amateur select team trying to keep up with paid senior WAFL players.

We should just walk away and join the VFL (again).

This is the full discussion with the WAFC chairman and it goes into more detail re our WAFL side including the possibility of an alignment with Perth being maybe the best option

In all honesty I think if Perth can be convinced it’s the most logical solution. Maybe if they have a few more games kicking a solitary goal it might help encourage them
