Dunkley is gone, he is a big loss for them. What we don't need is a repeat of the first half last time we played these guys. Would be nice to win a first quarter for once.
English gets you around the ground though, that is harder to stop. He has gotten very good in linking up around the ground.Sean Darcy needs to physically intimidate English. We control clearances we win.
He is useless in a forward line that is trying to score AND apply pressure. Should be playing WAFL and he will soon because Corbett is 500% better than him.Banners with 7 contested possessions. Equal most with Freddy for a forward.
Sick of seeing the ball waltz out this year, he needs to stay in.
Yes he can turn it over but he is actually quite clean crumbing and he actually hits the scoreboard.
Also brings solid pressure.
Corbett needs to kick straighter first. He is useless in a forward line that is trying to score AND apply pressure. Should be playing WAFL and he will soon because Corbett is 500% better than him.
I agree but I'd like to see Wilson back for Wagner. I can give young 1st round picks a fair bit of slack to make mistakes here and there, but that was not a great showing and some poor mistakes and decisions from a 26 yo who seemed very undersized for the position. Also Wilson earned it for his efforts when sent back to Peel.Same team please, if Switta is injured then bring Brodie into the 22 and make Erasmus sub. With a smaller forwardline we have enough mobility up forward to cover the fwd/mid connection that Switta brings
Ummm ok..but maybe should try getting more than 3 disposals in a game and try consistently kicking a goal a game. Even off the bench banners was better lol0 tackles in 2 weeks, 3 pressure act in those same 2 weeks. Josh Treacy exceeded both those defensive stats in his single game. Alex Sexton played forward for GC, is seen as lacking in his pressure and out tackled Bailey despite being on the ground for less than half the time he was. You and I had as many tackles in the last fortnight as Banfield did. Despite being on a couch or in a pub, we had the same impact as he did on keeping the ball in our forwardline.
There's reasons to like Banfield, I get why people do, but the idea he is a good defensive forward is the biggest myth that exists. By no metric at all is he a good pressure forward.
Pretty sure the point of the post wasn't about Treacy, but about Banfield.Ummm ok..but maybe should try getting more than 3 disposals in a game and try consistently kicking a goal a game. Even off the bench banners was better lol

By referring to Treacy so called defensive pressure is greater than banners, infers to me that you think these attributes he displays so far is greater than what banners does and should be in the team instead of. If that was read wrong, apologies
Wagner is a way better defender than Wilson, mistakes were early in the game.I agree but I'd like to see Wilson back for Wagner. I think our scouting department is doing a crap job on opposition analysis if we are starting so badly. We are obviously figuring some things out and rectifying on the fly.Very interesting game coming up against the Dogs. I'm still not convinced that we "won" the game against GC, more so, they ran out of legs and gave it up. Once Darcy got on top of their young ruckman ( playing in his second game) we got more dominant. Also if Lukosious kicked straight we would've been in trouble.
I was really disappointed that after all the talk pre and post game about home truths, and good hard training etc we still started so poorly, with no change to previous weeks. It's a damning stat that of our last 20 games we have only won 3 first quarters out of 20. JL isnt the most inspiring of speakers, maybe he's putting them to sleep before the game?
This weekend will tell us if we actually did start to play well, or if GC just fell over. Either way, our first 2 quarted against GC showed no improvement from previous weeks and that was what was so disappointing.
Fingers crossed we're on the up, time will tell.
I don't recall ever seeing Wilson look so out of his depth as Wagner did for the whole first half against GC. Like someone said above, I can absolutely excuse those sorts of mistakes from a first gamer looking to find their feet, it's much harder to accept from a 26 year old who was supposed to come in as plug and play. Wagner was the biggest liability on a team that was being made to look like WAFL players, and by some stretch. He surely has to go to Peel and absolutely dominate before getting another shot.Wagner is a way better defender than Wilson, mistakes were early in the game.
Would love that but English is playing a great role for the Bullies at the moment - might be easier said than done.Sean Darcy needs to physically intimidate English. We control clearances we win.

Just rest him this round if he is so important to us. There's no need to rush him back.Scan Sam's back now, just to be sure.
He built into the game. He doesn’t look comfortable in the last line of defence. Most of the mistakes I recall related to difficulty with the speed and intensity step up from VFL/WAFL. Also to be fair he seemed rushed into the side. I would have let him play another game at Peel before bringing him in. But what had been done has been done now so let him have another week. I don’t mind him working his opponent up the ground and being out-bodied and marked at 75metres from goal rather than at 30metres from goal.I don't recall ever seeing Wilson look so out of his depth as Wagner did for the whole first half against GC. Jackson definitely the better match-up for English around the ground. I would love to see Jackson get some more ruck or midfield minutes to follow him around.English gets you around the ground though, that is harder to stop. He has gotten very good in linking up around the ground.
Why?I wish JOM got the same support on this board as Sturt seems to get
My thoughts exactly! There is a lot of figuring out in the forward line to be done before we become a decent team in my opinion….and, to be perfectly frank, when the match day committee fails to play Amiss or Johnson in round 1, then drops Brodie from the midfield, I begin to have my doubts on their wisdom.
