Because younger is always better for most on this board.

does anyone know if the good teams are playing all of their 2nd year mids, and 3rd year talls (by choice and not injury)? Eg Collingwood, Brisbane, Carlton, Geelong, ?

Not really a good comparison to use teams with very different age profiles, draft selections, etc.

People want us to play our younger players because we are already one of the youngest teams and committing even further to the future might not make us too much worse right now. Having said that, I can't see the selectors going too much younger than we already are.

Below are teams ordered by games over the weekend. We were the most inexperienced in terms of games (just pipping Hawthorn). If you sort it by age it is similar, but we move to 3rd youngest and Sydney was actually the youngest. The profile of North is interesting to say the least.

Loving that table, Alfonz. So illuminating.

There are some pretty compelling stats around successful sides which indicate the rough sort of demographic required. Basically, X number of 100 gamers = winning shit.

It's obviously not as simple as that. The ideal is for the core of your side to have played 75+ games together.

Brennan Cox is at 79. Sean Darcy is at game 88. Caleb Serong is at game 63. Hayden Young at 40. So we are going okay - until you get to Jye Amiss at game 7. Luke Jackson is at game 5.

I mean, you don't have to count anything to know our forward line is miles off, but the core of our midfield and backline will be still good to go when the forward line is ready.

If we keep them together.

As for the Dogs - we were lucky we got them without Libba last time but this time there's no Dunkley. Pearce is only just remotely starting to come good and he, Coxy and Lew Cryin all need to be so ****ing on or we are in more trouble than Ned Kelly. And they hung that bastard.

But...I feel weirdly positive. Yair, yair, I know - that's in the rule book. You have to be weirdly positive to support this ragbag of freaks and mongrels, but the winds, they are gathering. There are signs. There is a little lull now. A change is gonna come.

I think it's the bit about won't make much more difference I take issue with.

Young talented players tend to do the best when they're placed in a good system with experience around them, actually not very different to what I've seen in the corporate world too!
Without that support even the most talented can fail to develop effectively, and there will be a tipping point.

People focus a lot on individual players but the output of a team is a lot about application, cohesion and adherence to a common plan and I'd rather see a bit of stability, even if that means keeping Banfield in (ouch I said it).

I think Erasmus will come into the team at some point this year, but right at this point I don't see why he should be pushing in from a team point of view.

Tim English should be the Dog's ball movement target on transition all game, running Darcy into space and marking. So we will need to be having Darcy getting dangerous ahead of the ball.

Jackson on English would be my move. Tag him around the ground. Need to force Naughton to contest marks forward of centre because the other talls aren't taking marks.
Was going to say the same thing. Use Darcy to beat him up around the stoppage, and Jackson to run him into the ground. Whole point in our 2 ruck setup is that we should be able to **** the other team's ruck up and gain midfield superiority in the second (in theory). Not managed it so far, except maybe vs the Suns, but give them time.

Yep. Shared experience. Very important.

So true. Last season much of the team shared a block of at least 16 games together. Everyone pretty much knew how things would play out among teammates onfield.

The losses particularly of Acres, Lobb and Dave Mundy have meant a big disruption to the players' expectations of and familiarity with each other. It's been tough going for the boys.

Again, the post was about Banfield, not Treacy.

Didn't think it was that hard to understand the point being made to be honest.

Yeah it wasn't so much they were stars it was they had to be replaced by people with less team cohesion (and often less actual experience)

Crazy stuff. We‘re marginally younger & less experienced than a side widely criticised for tanking! Adelaide looking scary.

the stuff Lobb said was completely farcical and unnecessary. Everyone knew he wanted out and was leaving, didn't need to make his trite and invidious remarks. Man's an absolute goon-slapper and only over there chasing another front-loaded contract and with his girlfriend who I believe was Rosich's daughter (?). I don't blame him for the relationship part, that's fine and understandable, but as you're exiting have some f***ing dignity and respect for your former employer who paid you some decent wages and gave you what you wanted (playing as a KPF, not as a ruck first...!).

Treacherous bastard, I hope we rub their noses in the dirt for it. I can't stand him and he's done sweet FA since he was traded there, I'd be dirty if I was a Bullies fan.....waste of money and list position

Out of our next 6 games Dogs at home then brisbane away, hawks at home then swans away followed by cats at home then dees away. I have us winning 1 (hawks) and maybe next friday 50/50 at best. I think some of the good sides are going to tear us apart. Hope I'm wrong . I have as much faith in the dockers at the moment as I have in my soccer side Queens park rangers who are going to play in league 1 next season. Less than zero .
Did Queens Park get automatic promotion because the new Football Stadium has been built there?
