Why do we find it so hard to move on from players who almost certainly aren't going to make it, guys who have been given their chances? We need to get better as a club and move people on when they need to be, you don't win premierships by being nice.
Correct. Great post
Dow not AFL
Plowman not AFL
Ed Curnow no longer AFL unless a pure tagger
Play Carrol, Kemp and Binns to see what they've got

Dow has been given a crack, and what we have seen at the level isn’t good enough.. we have had similar players 8. The past who dominated VFL but just could never make the jump, think Nick Graham, Matt Watson etc.. Dow seems certain to join this lot. Right now I would rather give Binns a crack than Dow.
When?
He got 2 (non-consecutive) games last year. None yet this year.

This is a reasonable point, is Dows dominance at VFL level a direct result of Mirk of dominating taps, this doesn’t happen at AFL level where we are usually 50/50 at best.
Only 1/3 of his possessions are clearances. He is still getting another 20 possessions a game. Would still win some clearances with another ruck.

We currently don't run enough mids through the middle and up forward he would at least do as much as Honey (I like honey but it was crazy to put him into the 1s after a very poor 2nds game after a long injury over the summer) as Paddy is a goal kicker in the 2s.

Players can improve, young players tend to get better. Some start off as nowhere near AFL quality and end up quite good AFL quality. Too many of Dow's games were played when he should have been playing VFL.

Here's what I think, out of Hewett, Kennedy and Curnow. Only 1 will be in our next premiership team. We aren't the only team who has had too many good but slow and immobile mids in their side and has had to part with one or two to make the balance right and take the next step.

What we are doing now in our midfield is the equivalent of going in with 4 big but good key position players in defence or attack. 4 Weiterings or 4 McKays. Sometimes it works, other times you get torched. Big, tall and slow rule applies the same in the middle as it does in defence or forward. You need some, you can't have too many.

Unfortunately injuries are not helping.

Despite being named in the VFL squad on Friday, Tom De Koning - who has been managed - won’t play at any level this weekend, while Brodie Kemp and Lochie O’Brien come out of the side which beat Richmond last week due to AFL emergency commitments.

Harry Lemmey and Alex Mirkov will also miss the game.

Interesting TDK named …

Tom De Koning has been named in Carlton’s team alongside Lachie Plowman and Jordan Boyd, but he has been listed as managed and must be considered unlikely to play, and the Blues also won’t have top grade debutant Alex Cincotta or ruckman Alex Mirkov for its game against Sandringham at Ikon Park.

What’s wrong with Mirk?
