S Durdin looks far more assured than Young at the moment. Good backup to have, Young who looked a million dollars last year now looking like list fill.

Just on the game, I know they are top of the ladder and a machine at home but seriously how do professional/semi-professional footballers allow themselves to be destroyed like that? Lock down, make it a scrap, protect your percentage! Now needing a North win or draw or conversely a Tigers win by similar margins to the Coasters today if we are to hold on to a spot in the Ten, which in my view gives a huge boost to the seniors finals campaign to have the 2s still live as well.

Seeing as GWS also didn't qualify for the VFL finals, but are still alive in the AFL, it would definitely be worth asking them to play a ressies scratch match alongside our Rd 24 match for both sides to maintain touch.

St Kilda / Sandringham & Sydney are also in the same boat at the moment with the VFL team bombing out.

There will be opportunities for scratch matches, should we continue into the finals (if that's something the club wants to pursue).

What a butchered opportunity to have our depth players maintain match fitness and touch during the finals.

Was always going to be a tough ask. We had to rob from the VFL side to fill the AFL side.
Bring back Cerra, Walsh, Gov, Kennedy and Williams into the Seniors and you get Dow, Ed, Fish or Marchy and maybe a Hollands, Cottrell or Cuningham back into the VFL.
Having said that, GC have a very strong VFL side. They had 17 AFL listed players, with 14 having AFL exposure, compared to 15 and 10 for us.
The average ages of the AFL listed players is 22.7yo for us and 24.7yo for them.
Only two of our AFL listed players were 26yo+ and they had 7.

They beat the 3rd placed Hawks by 64pts
5th placed Williamstown by 31pts
6th placed Footscray by 65pts
9th placed Tigers by 73pts
10th placed North by 56pts

2nd placed Werribee is the only top 10 team they've played that they haven't beaten and that was only a 2pt loss.

Also beat the Cats by 107pts
Port Melb by 64pts
Bullants by 122pts
Frankston by 107pts
Swans by 68pts

So they had 4 x 100+pt wins, averaged 119pts for and 64pts against. An average winning margin of 61.3pts over 16 games and lost 2 games by a combined total of 3pts.

Disappointing to miss finals, but this was never the game to get us over the line. Lost to 2 teams who finished below us on the ladder. Win those and we're in.
