I'm sure a few highly priced IP lawyers are rubbing their hands together with glee...
It was reported in 2010 that Fremantle ended up paying Levi's a royalty of $1,000 a year because Levi's owned the rights to the word Dockers.

That came at the conclusion of a legal battle lasting 15 years....

Melbourne needs a third football stadium. This needs to be the angle our club takes from now. Push the angle and need for a 3rd stadium, build allies and let’s see what doors we can open.

If a state like Tassie with 500k population can get a 750 mill stadium that’s used 11 weeks of a season, there is no reason why a 3rd stadium can’t be funded for Melbourne which is soon to be Australia largest city.

it is not logical to have 9 Melbourne clubs playing out of two stadia.

So do we get to have our very own AFLW team now ?
It's always been our very own team.

Just as there are Marvel signs up at Docklands, the stadium is still 100% owned by the AFL.

How anyone can think they can support a full time town down there is beyond me.

Mainlander opinion?

Funnily enough, I’ve managed to sign up more than 50 members over the years through the ‘small club, no pokies’ spiel. Plenty of them are still signed on, but probably only make a game or two a year.
We are still better to have them, they are all having kids who support us now.
No argument from me - but people thinking that we add games and suddenly attendees come out of the woodwork is naive. The only real way is to build the entire base.

Sounds terrible but we are better off staying lower again this yr and maybe next ,to accumulate as much top end talent as possible. Although in saying that don’t think we will have to try that hard on current form.

So now that it is done, and Tassie will be coming into the competition in 2028, the flow on effect will be in full force.

North will have a significant sponsorship/revenue hole to fill once the current Tasmania deal expires. How do we do that? Options include:

1. Obtain another secondary market. This is getting trickier to achieve with locations drying up. Bendigo and Albury/Wodonga are our tow best options in my opinion. Both have venues ready to go.
2. Back ourselves in. Play all 11 home games at marvel. This will see an increase in membership costs across the board in an effort to plug this hole. How will this be received, I'm not sure, but it will certainly happen. We should be pushing for third/boutique stadium in Melbourne, but this will be a long way behind the other stadium builds happening in this country.

Other items to address
1. Womens team - I presume we just become the North Melbourne football club instead of North Melbourne/Tasmania. We have been used as a bit a guinea pig here over recent years.
2. Academies - Clearly these will be shut down in Tassie, we will need to move them to Melbourne in order to be sustainable.

It's been a great ride in Tassie, but we now have to strategically focus on Melbourne as our home. We aren't relocating. We aren't folding. These next couple of years are absolutely critical in setting a strong foundation for the club moving forward.

The AFL men's team is expected to enter the competition in the 2028 Toyota Premiership Season, with a proposed timeline for a women's team entry into the NAB AFLW Competition to be worked through shortly.

The Age reported on Tuesday night the new team would have the right to bid for the sons of any former Tasmanian AFL player that played over 100 games, as well as a $1 million pool outside of the salary cap to fund sign-on bonuses to attract players.
