I’m assuming the West is calling every former Eagles great for their thoughts on where we are at.

I’m sure once they have moved through the greats and other premiership players, the second tier will be next and then so forth.
Looking forward to hearing from esteemed names such as Kane Munro, Jeremy Humm, Brent Tuckey and the like… by seasons end (or earlier) at the rate the West are moving at 😂

He was running for a seat in Stirling not that long ago. Also told he makes an amazing carbonara.

It's weird how they all say the sane thing though

Admittedly I can only read the first two paragraphs but from that the takeaways are that our current struggles hurt to watch for him and his teammates and that everything needs to be looked at

Neither of those two things are particularly controversial. No eagles fan is enjoying our results and things do need to be looked at - something I’m sure the club is doing

As an article, unless it miraculously gets better, adds nothing

If he was really concerned he would do a Schoey and front up for the Beagles.

Fair enough, it's this bit that I'm not sure about and whether the right things are being looked at by the right people

But we've done it to death and can disagree

I fully support this, but I don't understand how it'll work. Will they have photos of these guys near the entrances saying "Don't let these guys in!"?

I assume it would be facial recognition

Really like how they can be reviewed after 5 years. You’d like to hope that those people will reflect on their actions and be able to attend after 5 years.

Do they have this tech already at grounds?

Yeah I think the chance to learn shouldn't be overlooked.

It's practically impossible to enforce thoroughly. It's not a bad symbolic gesture though, given it's the only real power they have over fans.

West Coast great Peter Sumich puts heat on out-of-form Eagles forward Jack Darling

West Coast coach Adam Simpson is being urged to make a powerful selection statement with out-of-form spearhead Jack Darling, even with their lack of fit players.

Two-time Eagles premiership forward Peter Sumich went as far as saying Simpson would be better off playing “one short”, giving Darling just one out of 10 in this week’s player ratings for a one-goal, four-disposal performance in Saturday’s 46-point loss to Richmond at the MCG.

The 30-year-old has kicked 10 goals in eight games this season, and just five in the past five games.

It’s his lowest average goals per game since his debut season back in back in 2011, and is down on his career averages in goals (1.3 per game down from 1.9) disposals (9.6 down from 11.9) and contested marks (1.3 down from 1.6).

“I am giving Jack a one because he kicked one goal from a free kick, but I am being nice – he really deserves a zero,” Sumich wrote.

“I just don’t know how long Simpson can keep playing him, because he just keeps letting the side down and his coaches, who have shown a lot of faith in him.

“He is showing no leadership on the ground at all. I would drop him and play one short with no sub if Simpson has no other players to come into the side.

I would drop him and play one short.
- Peter Sumich.
“This would be a powerful statement to the team. My gut feeling is Simpson will play him again, but is that really the right decision for the team and player?”

Port Adelaide premiership midfielder turned outspoken AFL commentator Kane Cornes was also scathing in his assessment of Darling, describing his year as “poor” and saying he provided little help for young gun Oscar Allen.

“He (Allen) is probably going under the radar with the season that he’s having considering the team that he’s playing in and the lack of help that he’s getting,” Cornes told AFL.com.au.

“If it wasn’t for him they lose this game (against Richmond) by 20 goals. He kicked four of their first six goals which is amazing considering the service, the lack of inside 50s, the lack of opportunities.

“Darling’s having a poor year so he’s got no help from a key position point of view down there to help him out.

“I love it, he’s a young player I’m looking forward to watching for the next 10 years, just hopefully it’s not in a side this poor for much longer.”

During The Game (7West's recap show) someone (I dunno if it was Lecca or Shaun McManus) said that if we drop Darling, that leaves Allen to take two of the opposition's best key defenders. So yeah, dropping Darling would be a dumb move regardless of his form.

Is it any wonder he never got a main gig?

Sumich is really showing how much of a massive dunce he is now he's got an outlet to really put his opinions out into the world.
What's that saying - Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt

The thing is what he says is spot on and correct… apart from the playing one short thing… that’s his problem, he adds something stupid on which negates his good opinion

Darling is clearly out of form, possibly because he’s playing through injury as posted by WCE_phil , or maybe he’s just having a bad run - I’m not going to pretend to know why. Most frustrating for me on the weekend was that he got clean hands on a number of marks but wasn’t able to hold them as you’d normally expect

I’ll say these things in regards to dropping him though :
• Even though he’s under performing he still takes away a quality defender from double or triple teaming Allen
• The only other KPF we have available in his place is Barnett who’s struggling to impact in the WAFL, elevating him to the AFL would just be silly
• We could run with a small ball forwardline but that would leave Allen and an undersized Waterman as the sole talls. Allen would be on his own when Waterman goes into the ruck or alternatively we could use either Rotham or Jamieson as second ruck
• This season he’s kicked 10.11 which is unusually inaccurate for Darling. Convert a few of those misses and he has say 14.7 which would be in line with his career accuracy and goals per game
• If he is injured and playing through it, sacrificing his own game in the process, then rather than a lack of leadership it’s actually the opposite given our sheer lack of numbers

So I’m really curious as to what dropping him would actually achieve. That said if he is carrying an injury then serious thought should be given to resting him

He cops an unreasonable amount of shit for someone who is our 3rd best KPF of all time, behind Kennedy and Sumich, and will likely retire as our all time 2nd leading goal scorer

Sumich trying to get him dropped then delisted in the hope he doesn't surpass his Eagles goal kicking record?
