Has been part of the Tigers recruiting team for the last 5 years as a scout.

Thursfield, who played 77 games for the Tigers between 2005-11, has been a member of the club's recruiting team for the past five seasons during its premiership era.

Thanks GR I presume the premiership players at tigers were already recruited before he started in that role, hopefully he is highly rated by someone in the AFL other than Brad Scott 🙄

And I certainly will be watching while he gets into action for us. I really hope we’ve got someone who is adept in his chosen field as Clarkson is 🤞

A tad harsh! Petrie was up there with the best full forwards at his peak. They aren’t all necessarily stars of the competition but I’d say there were all evidence of good drafting given many clubs would have taken them earlier given the benefit of hindsight
Yeah fair call re Dish. I loved him but I’m talking super star. Agree I’m being too harsh. Just fed up with our garbage mediocrity I guess

Other than Carey and Longmire deal many years ago, have we EVER taken a player that should have been taken much higher in hindsight? I can’t think of one. Our recruiting has been bloody ordinary since the draft came in. I don’t feel like our club has actually ever really understood the machinations of the draft, future picks, nothin.
Our picks are either completely uninspiring or Hail Mary’s that have never gone off.
Larkey. Zurhaar. LT. Scott Thompson.

Probably Ben Brown and Mason Wood. Maybe Ben Jacobs.

There's probably more but most of them would be in the 00s.

Hmmmm. We could disagree for hours upon hours.
I don’t rate Larkey, he’s BBB all over again to me. Like shooting Bambi I know, but I don’t see premiership KPF in Larks.
Zurhaar gotta produce a lot more…..good get for a rookie though.
LT I can‘t even remember where he was taken, good player though. how high was his draft number? 2nd or third round probably about right.
Scott Thompson was a gun, good get.
BBB see above re Larkey.…..one trick pony.
Mason Wood was actually reasonably high wasn’t he? Like second rounder. About where he should sit.
What about the endless misses?
LA - Rory Sloane went the next pick and we’d told Rory the night before the draft we were taking him…..was the story I heard
Garner - granted unlucky but never did much when fit really. Looked promising though.
Neilson - WTAF?
W Walker - complete reach.
EVW - reach from memory.
Mahony - too early, no elite traits
Lazarro - too early, no elite traits
There‘s like 20+ others that were taken too early and we could have rookied.
Our recruiters have been sub par for a bloody long time. maybe it’s a club resources thing, but there‘s plenty of people out there, even on here, who would do the job for not much.

Larkey was in the 70s and is a better forward than many higher picks. Zurhaar is also a better player than many many draftees from the ND that were taken higher.

LT went at 53. Should have been higher. 200 games and over 300 goals.

Ben Brown went at 47 and kicked over 180 goals in three seasons. As much or more than anyone in the comp at the time. He's kicked 10 goals in a match and over 600 in his career. His one trick is kicking goals.

The only one who is questionable out of them is Wood. He went at 41 and hasn't been consistent enough to be worth a higher pick imo, after thinking about it. But the other four would all go alot higher with hindsight if their drafts were done again.

I agree we've had alot more misses than gets but I was responding to this specific comment you made:

Other than Carey and Longmire deal many years ago, have we EVER taken a player that should have been taken much higher in hindsight? I can’t think of one.

There's at least four.

And I pointed them out because its important not to let the shitness of our onfield performances cause you to miss the stuff we did get right or you'll just get really negative about everything. WE have enough to be negative about without feeing shit about everything the club has done.

But yeah, overall we should have done better than we have done.

I’m probably too harsh but I would only go Harvey from that list. All very good players for our club, but any of them real deal star stars?
I’ll have to go back and look who was taken in Petrie draft.
Goldstein??!! Those who still continue to underrate his career continue to make fools of themselves.

MSD TWEAK OPENS UP POOL

THE AFL's decision to tweak eligibility for this month's Mid-Season Rookie Draft has opened the door for a 25-year-old from the Northern Bullants and a bolter fresh from a country league to be recruited without requiring a draft exemption.

VFL, WAFL, SANFL or TSL players had needed an exemption in the past if they hadn’t nominated for the previous year’s draft, but that was changed on Tuesday with the announcement any state league player who has played three senior games – only reserves and colts games won't qualify – this year will be able to nominate.

It means 200cm Bullants forward Brandon Ryan, Richmond VFL third tall James Trezise, Sturt midfielder Tom Lewis, Box Hill wingman Ethan Stanley and North Melbourne midfielder Sam Lowson won't have to fight for an exemption in the lead up to the draft, which prevented Footscray captain Lachie Sullivan getting picked last year.

Ryan moved to Preston from Maribyrnong Park over summer and has made an instant impression, booting 18 goals to start the year. The 25-year-old has interest from more than a handful of AFL clubs, but won't play again before the mid-season draft after being hit with a three-game suspension for striking this week.

Trezise, 20, was recruited from Tooradin-Dalmore in the West Gippsland Football League over the off-season and produced his best performance yet last weekend, collecting 29 disposals and 10 marks to attract increased interest from recruiters, after not coming through the NAB League program and being spotted playing country footy.

Meanwhile, Will Elliott – the son of Australian Test cricketer Matthew – is garnering interest ahead of the mid-season draft, having attracted the attentions of a handful of clubs with available list spots. Elliott, a mobile 202cm key forward, missed the majority of his top-age junior season due to a knee injury but has made an impressive comeback in the Coates Talent League with Oakleigh Chargers this season.

Set to turn 19 in June, Elliott played in a Young Guns trial game at Ikon Park last Sunday and finished with one goal from nine disposals and three marks. His father, Matthew, played 21 Tests for Australia while his brother, Sam, is a contracted state cricketer for Victoria. – Josh Gabelich and Riley Beveridge
