It's hardly a ridiculous pile on... in fact, the media have been surprisingly gentle on Simpson, given our epicly bad performances. I can't think of any other coach that could have dished out 2-3 years of complete shite and not had the entire media calling for blood.

Not absolving some blame but the current situation is not even close to being all Simmo’s fault.

When teams play poorly, it's almost never the coaches fault entirely. That doesn't stop them from being the one to get the chop. Every senior coach knows this.

Luckily you can always trust the club to be completely open and honest with their communication and not be at all secretive, particularly where Simpson is concerned

Errr... the post from the club unequivocally referenced the claim that Simpson was offered 3 months leave. So either Rhino got the scoop before it was even discussed with Simpson... or someone fed him bullshit and he lapped it up.

They apparently OFFERED him extended leave, if he wanted. That's it. So what?

Not sure why the club feels the need to go Reeeeeee and debunk it literally an hour or so after it was first released, unless they've scratched the surface on something juicy?



Watching Rhino, or any media for that matter try to double down on their reports is quite entertaining though.

I'm here for it. Not sure who I want to win and who i want to look really stupid, the club or the media.

Although I agree it is pedantic, but I also think it maybe the club trying to show 100% support.

If he is asked to take leave it could be interpreted as being pushed out.

If he is offered leave, they are giving him options and support.

My openning thoughts -

Who are they going to trade Darling, Gaff and others from that group of so called "legacy players" to? What do they expect in return? They won't get much. The players themselves might refuse to move across the country, and if they do is the club prepared to force their hand Treloar style? Also these guys are well overpaid so if the plan is to get rid of them as a salary cap dump will they really find clubs who will take on those salaries or would we end up having to pay half their salary like Collingwood with Grundy if we wanted to move them on. I applaud them for being willing to make changes if they do try to go down this path but their are lots of potential snafu's and land mines with this plan.

I think the "we plan to take Harley Reid no matter what" stance is a bluff designed to lure out godfather offers.

The blame everything on Covid/Long Covid in 2022 excuse that Eddie trotted out as having come from his sources clearly came from within the building at WCE. That is eerily similar to the comments Nisbett was making after our loss to North in Round 1. I have no heard anybody else saying that other than Nisbett. And i don't think anybody else thinks it is plausible or salable other than NIsbett. Eddie and Nisbett are mates. The trotting out of this steaming pile of excrement as an excuse makes me think it was Nisbett himself that Eddie has been speaking to.

It kind of provides the first hint of an answer into the thinking at HQ. They know they can't do nothing at the end of this season like they did last year. They have to be seen to be doing something or there could be a large scale revolt from supporters. Something would have to give and they would involve somebody/some group of people getting the asse. Would it be Simpson, Nisbett, non - Nisbett administrative staff like ROB or Bell, coaching support staff like the assistant coaches, non - coaching support staff like S&C or actual players? It looks like it is senior players who will be copping the blame and getting the asse.

If they are going to throw money at free agents next year i would rather they didn't advertise it. Don't tell people you are willing to overpay and desperate to buy something in advance of the negotiations. Even if they are going to have loads of cash to spend and are desperate to buy something don't advertise that or we are more likely to get bent over.

Not a bad idea, at least they’re trying to do something. Gives him a fresh outlook for 2024 and I would suppose a final chance to get some improved results out of what will be a vastly different list.

Glen Quartermain has been hammering this point this last week or so. Clearly we’re starting to see a trend, the reduced soft cap has gutted forty department resources and the head coaches are the ones who are suffering and burning out.

Love how the Eagles hand Ryan Daniels all their goss when they want it out there but don't want to release themselves. He might be on two payrolls
