The 3 month reports are inaccurate.

It's actually 2 years and 3 months.

Pay that one

I do note that the club has been quick to squash this story but have done nothing to deny Nisbett leaving at the end of 2024

Lloyd says we're five years from finals? Does he think we're refounding the club or something?

Lloyd thought Zac Clarke was a better ruckman than Naitanui

A lot can happen in 5 years

What an odd stance for the club to take...

Firstly, isn't the time between seasons kinda the most important time for the senior coach? End-of-year reviews, trades, drafting, developing new strategies, implementing them. How do you do that without a senior coach? Plus, it's probably the time a senior coach is experiencing the least amount of pressure. There's no games going on (so no losses). Less media commitments.

Secondly, why would you announce it right now?? Why not at the end of the season if/when he actually takes the leave? Ok, they didn't actually announce it... it's just being reported in the media. But someone must have leaked it to the media in order to trigger the story.

The whole thing reeks... like the club wants to signal to fans that they are taking action, without actually taking any real action. Alternatively, maybe someone is white-anting Simpson behind his back... trying to quietly send a message that he's burnt out, lost the passion to coach and needs time away from the game... basically eroding his authority and command of the players, and maybe tacitly pushing him to stand down.

Man Ed got through that segment like he had somewhere to be. I found so odd he gets his infor about West Coast from other victorian clubs(just sounds like BS source). Also not surprising he endorsed Nizzy to get us through this

At least Zac Clarke is still running around at 33 dominating for Subiaco in the WAFL.

What's thicc boy up to these days? Is it Lendi, RAC or HJ's adverts this week?

That definitely seems likely given Mr Jakovich wanted him to get the arse. Not surprised if others want a scapegoat.

It may well be but I distinctly remember lecras being carried through the best part of 2 x seasons. Small forwards don't exactly have a reputation for contributing in the twilight years, so if lecras was still a solid contributor, it would have been out of the ordinary. I only raised this as it shows a trend of what appears to be Simpson having a hard time being cut-throat with the senior players.

This is f**king terrible call.
Also I can absolutely 100% guarantee you that he had a better season in 2018 than 95% of our list will this year.

SGIO, begging people to not cancel their membership in the wake of our bad form.

I wonder if it’s more about making a statement about the soft cap. Clarkson stepping away, Hardwick quitting, a couple of other coaches have said something about the soft cap. It’s been the narrative the last couple of days. Eagles trying to do their part to put the cap back up

So whats the logic behind the club supposedly wanting Simmo gone for 3 months at the end of the season? So he doesnt get lynched in Yagan Square during Mad Monday?

Like, what exactly is it supposed to achieve? If its for "mental health" then just appoint a caretaker and tell him to bugger off now?

My guess is that it's been misreported.

Simmo planning to take a big holiday, club agrees, media hear rumours somehow and characterise it within the current mental health of coaches narrative.

tbh tho most of the fan engagement around it has been uniformly positive, so classic WC to come out and shut it down

The club hasn't announced anything, this is Eddie stating what he's heard from 'people' in the industry.

Who said it's for mental health? Maybe after 10 years, he just wants some extended time off?

Perhaps they're ok with it because maybe there's some kind of agreement to hand over the reins in 2025, so it's a good opportunity for Schofield to take the lead in the off-season, if they want to succession plan that is.

Luckily you can always trust the club to be completely open and honest with their communication and not be at all secretive, particularly where Simpson is concerned
It's a great reflection on the state of the club when I hear the club say something Eddie reported is false, and my instinct is to believe Eddie.
