It also took LDU till last year to get w games in a row over 25 touches. Different players tho. LDU actually reminds me of a contested version of Higgo the way he moves. Will is right in the pack until he emerges with the ball. Very different players.

In defence of LDU and all our players in general, we are (or have been) the comps easy beats.

Excited to see how all our emerging kids fair when we start playing regular games on our terms.

I watched the game back and his second half was outrageous. Ratten gave him additional responsibility with Greenwood and Simpkin out of the side and Phillips responded with a half of genuinely elite football.

His ability to win the ball in the contest and release a clean handball is Cunnington-esque.

It was the clubs directive for him to have reduced game time last week. Hence the 70% game time.

I didn’t watch the VFL, but dont expect Will to be the type of player to look good on the spread and cover the ground with ease.
He’s working hard on it ala Petraca’s level of fitness base when he first began, but he’s played what 7-8 games?
Give him time.

He came to us as an elite hand baller. He knows that. He’s worked really hard on his kicking and unless LDU pinches it off him - will captain the club one day.

He’ll play a full game tomorrow and provided he pulls up well again should come into the side to play Freo.

For those who want to know he’s the one who really wants to drive the standards internally and raise the bar and he’s only just a kid. Says a lot about his mindset.

We’re now seeing what prompted the club to take him as pick 3.

yeah i remember that. Something that made him seem like a good leader at the time. Like a proper, considered leader in whatever field he found himself in. Not just a footy captain.

With all the setbacks he has had, he has put together as good a three week stretch as Cunnington, LDU, or Simpkin had done to this point in their careers.

He has had every disadvantage and excuse imaginable, yet if he holds this form he’ll have had a relatively quick breakout as far as inside midfielders are concerned.

This is actually accurate. It shows how low our expectations have got that we are generally happy with losing by small margins. Cold comfort really.
