It would be a lot of the same posters, too. They can't see talent in advance, only finally acknowledging it when it's rammed down their throats.

I don't watch a lot of juniors so going in relatively blind and review based on performance. LDU sounded great on paper but didn't show it for a few years, injury seems to be the main culprit there. For as much as you say it is acknowledging talent in advance, sometimes it is admitting that there is a gap between talent and performance and for as much as there are those those that you miss talent in advance, there are plenty of others that prove to be correct. It is an opinion game and personal preferences play into it.

Fat, slow and stout.

Just not sure of the order.

You lot told me he is good.

Goodness me. I didn't know you spotted me getting about in the crowd yesterday.

For the record I started slow, got fat, now I'm stout, complemented by being grey haired and balding.

I mean surely you could not have been talking about Will Phillips, who was terrific yesterday. Surely not????

in our best 2 players 2 weeks in a row
he has been named on the bench the last 3 games and as on paper he starts there, we have started poorly in all 3 games, once he gets on the ground and in the middle,we have slowly started to get the game back on our terms, coincidence or not? i see it in real time but anyone who doubts this watch the replays and watch his work in tight,he is keeping it simple and working with his one wood which is elite and once he plays another 30 games or more i am sure you will start to see what other clubs he has in his bag, similar to what i saw in the tac final he played for the chargers as a 17 year old which included Rowell,Anderson and Jamara but Phillips was the one who caught my eye that day and i have never forgotten it

Would like to see his career trajectory compared to LDU. Seems to be tracking on par so far? Maybe LDU a touch slower to get repeated high 20 touch games
The first time LDU got 25+ touches two games in a row was rounds 9 and 10 last year. I thought he'd done more earlier.

I looked it up for anyone curious like I was. Extremely similar. LDU had his first back to back games of 20 + touches in games 30 and 31, Will just had his first in games 23 and 24View attachment 1704743View attachment 1704742
It also took LDU till last year to get w games in a row over 25 touches. Different players tho. LDU actually reminds me of a contested version of Higgo the way he moves. Will is right in the pack until he emerges with the ball. Very different players.

Watched Will as a junior and he dominated the competition the 2 yrs I watched and he was not the biggest player physically out there .Some juniors dominate purely due to size which wasn’t the case with him. I have always likened him to Joel Selwood driven, tough, reliable and a leader.

Impressive that he’s been able to find that extra bit of fitness I thought he was lacking a month ago. Credit to him. I didn’t think he would be producing this quality performance until next year.

His game today:
27 touches (2nd best in his career after last week's 29)
14 contested possessions (career high, prev. best was 11)
8 clearances (career high, prev. best was 5)
6 tackles (career high, prev. best 5)

He also went at 81% disposal efficiency and only had 1 clanger (which wasn't even skill based - the clanger was the push in the back in front of goal he gave away early on) from his 27 touches which is insane efficiency for a midfielder.

I don't have his pressure stats yet but I'm assuming it was close to a career best as well.

75% game time this time around. He just keeps getting better each week with a run of uninterrupted games in his best position - who would have thought.
Not the Acurate One.

Was getting that feeling he may never live up to the hype earlier this year, but the last 2 weeks he has shown why he was so highly rated.

If these young midfielders keep improving we seriously have the midfield covered for years.

I hate comparing to the Dogs, because I think they are a bunch of pissants, but we are building an elite midfield like they have with Bontempelli, Macrae, Liberatore, Trelaor etc.

Just quietly I wouldn’t mind Aaron Naughton playing alongside Larkey either.
