Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

I don't know how others feel, but out of the players after the obvious pick 1, I'd take Caddy. Apart from the great leaping marks, the thing that catches my eye is his touch with the ball. Every game he seems to have one or two magnificent gathers at full speed below his knees. Combined with some fantastic handpasses that are really creative. Add to that he's a booming kick. He really looks like a Jack Riewoldt type. I hope we finish high enough to grab him, cos I reckon the Roos would be all over him as well.

Watson a more skilful and versatile Puopolo.
Will his attributes allow him to be as prolific at senior level?
Is his risk-weighted upside worth a top 5 pick? 🤔
Yes I think so. I would be really happy to end up with him. But I do suspect that Walter, Duursma and Caddy will get picked before him. The conventional view is that skilful little guys grow on trees, so pick the big guys first. Look at the shock when North took Phillips.

Imagine a half forward line of Duursma-Caddy-Watson. The forwards in this draft are crazy, especially in contrast to the past few years.

Assuming all available at our pick, who is the best for us?
Look, if you have me a piece of paper and said "these three players are identical in their talent. One's a [Caddy], one's a [Duursma], and one's a [Watson]. Pick one." Then I'd pick Caddy. He's a great forward target and competitive at ground level, someone who can play as a second tall next to Mitch Lewis or a third tall if we have another KPF come up. But I'd have Watson ahead of him on performance and Duursma about equal with more runs on the board right now. Any of the three makes our forwarding more potent and consistent, they simply get goals on the board and as good as our young forwards are only Mitch and Bruest are consistent scoreboard threats. If we think Watson is better we'll pick Watson, regardless of fit. But if I had to say which player I think works best for us, it's Caddy.

Out of the frwds , I'm on the caddy train. Looks like a hard players to match up on. Moves really well, launches at the ball and is quite smart when balls on the ground.
But, if Sam wanted another inside mid , then Colby mcC looks the goods. Well balanced and motors along all day.

I do agree we need KPP's, but in the event Curtin and Caddy are gone with our pick, I'm loving the idea of adding another elite young, outside mid to our incredibly talented young group.

Newcombe Day Ward Worpel Mckenzie ... Mckercher?
The prospect's mouth watering to complete our midfield but I think we're in dire need of forwards, even Nick Watson would give us another avenue to goal.

Given what's advertised in the draft so far, I'd prioritise forwards and backs then mids. I'm hoping Caddy is still available.

Whilst I wouldn't be against us going that route I actually think we desperately need to address the lack of class up forward so if he's still there then I'd go with Watson. Look at how Rachelle and Rankie have transformed Adelaide in such a short space of time. I guess the positive is that we could do with Caddy, Watson or McKercher so the hard for recruiters is always assessing whether a players skills will translate to senior footy. This is where we have to trust MM and Co.

This thread is not a discussion about who you think North will take, what pick they will have, or why they stuffed up in previous drafts, etc….

Just read the pinned post if you’re confused, and post about the actual players in this national draft.

How about we have a thread titled “AFL National Draft Players Discussion Thread” and one titled “AFL National Draft General Discussion Thread”.

There are so many variables about who we will take depending on who’s available, with what happens with the teams that will finish below us and what they do with their picks. It’s a bit tiring this thread being so parochial, especially us keen draft watchers who want to have a genuine discussion pertaining to the draft but these posts keep getting deleted.
Maybe go to the Hypothetical Trade & Draft thoughts & random scenarios

It’s really that easy.

Also, while we’re here, publicly complaining about moderation is a no-no and has long been against the board rules which you can read in the stickied thread at the top of this board.

We have very simple rules in some specific threads in order to keep discussion on topic, it’s that simple.

Got an issue, hit the PM.

Just reading through the 50 deleted posts here, and Strapping Young Lad has been way too kind to some of you...

This is ONE thread, out of many, that we want to remain specific...news, media, clips of the current draft pool.

One thread.

We have asked, reasonably kindly, that any post about who you would take, who North might take, who you would trade for a higher pick etc etc...please go into the numerous other threads (e.g. hypothetical thread, 2023 list management thread, maybe others)

This is, apparently, way too much of an imposition to some of you; that you might have to take an extra 30 seconds to post in the appropriate thread, that a desire to keep factual info separate from hypothetical thought for the benefit of keeping separate discussions separate, to make it easier and more efficient for your fellow posters, is akin to MODERATOR DICTATORSHIP!!!

Read the pinned post.

Post info and links about this year under 18s here
Post your desires and hypotheticals elsewhere.

It's really not that ****ing hard, so do it.

This doesn't seem very relevant to any of the draft crop this year mods please remove.

Connor O'Sullivan is a good player, worth a pick around 6-10. I've been critical of his kicking in the past, but like McCabe he moves really well and has a massive impact on contests. Could very well be the bookend swingman we've been looking for, freeing up our other defenders by just doing his job really well. One to look for if we end up in that range, one way or another.

I really like the look of o'sullivan. He will be a massive unit one day. Cale hooker a good comp in your eyes? You would have seen more than the one highlights vid I have seen to this point!

Hooker's a good one, but Darcy Moore is the player you'd hope he becomes. He's a lot like McCabe, not as good of a kick but a bigger frame and a monster one-on-one defender. He moves fast without looking like he's sprinting and gets his hands on it a ton in traffic. As with McCabe I'd have liked to see him run as the deepest forward, but on his strength as a defender he's every chance to go high in the draft.

Yep, big fan. If we secure and take two top 10 picks to the draft, I’d take O’Sullivan with the second pick. Rate him very high. Great overhead, endurance, speed, reading the flight of the ball. I’d like to see him have a run as FF in the champs. It’d be interesting if he had a run on ball too.
