That is true, but Baskaran has had 3 seasons at the level now. She also had a whole preseason to push her case for best 21 with the new coaching group.

If only! Not sure we have the trade capital to get into the top 5, aside from giving away our 1st and two x 2nd round picks. I am not sure I would want to overspend to do this. Seems like pick 14 might be earmarked for someone or something.
I would make the argument that there are several very good footballers in the AFLW and some young stars coming, but Ash Centra is the closest I’ve seen to a totally natural footballer in the women’s game to date. If you could you would. She’s going to have to be a trade in a few years time…

I hope it's just a contract standoff that is solvable through higher pay / longer years.

Two big concerns though - if she wants to be in a higher pay tier that we won't have the pay scale to meet her requests, with the likes of Harris potentially coming in combined with our other high profile players we have brought in from other clubs on assumedly higher tiers to defect (Ashmore, Gilroy, TLR, Bates, Bodey, West & Sheriff in particular). I believe you can only have so many players in the defined pyramid-shaped pay tiers each season.
sounds like this came to pass judging by the Herald Sun article today. We started our offer to Breed with only the lowest tier 4 level. Apparently just can’t offer her as high a tier as what the pies can

A four-club AFLW trade is being lodged now, unlocking deals for a further four players. Details here.

I'd be shattered if we gave up lou. Not only is she best friends with a friend of mine, but she's extremely versatile. She's also happy to sit out games for the betterment of match-ups etc.

Every team needs someone like her

Expected another player to go, didn't think it'd be Stephenson. Really good club servant. A bit like for like player wise too defensively with Allen, though Lou at least could play up ground if needed.

We seem to still be quite busy. Losing Breed because we've left a tier spot open for Harris who we may not get anyway could really backfire. I'm sure there's a plan.

Pies have really sold it good to Breed. It will be very difficult for us to retain her now.

Stephenson is a great club person and is quite versatile, but is slow and has very poor agility. Given the team composition has been on the tall-ish side and too slow, she is surplus to our needs in my opinion. A tall out for a small is a good move, but the jury is well and truly out as to whether Allen can recapture her form of a few seasons ago - I am not convinced! That said, only losing Stephenson is not overpaying, so nothing really risked by doing this trade.

If it is true the pies have sold it well to breed, we bunch our excess first rounders for pick 1 plus depth

We only have one 1st round pick, so not sure how we can bunch that one up. Unlikely Pies part with their first pick. Also not sure Pies depth is what our list needs.

Breed trade finished.

As part of the trade with Hawthorn, Breed arrives at Collingwood alongside pick 26 in exchange for picks 22 and 28 in this year’s Telstra AFLW Draft.

I like Breed and she's such a strong player but her disposal is really poor so I think this is a move in the right direction.
We really need to be looking at players with solid disposal especially with our gameplan

AFLW players don’t have the same trade currency as AFL players. When you compare Breed’s deal to most others, it’s about right.

However, Sheeran, a 2 time All Australian, for a miserly pick 18. This is way unders in my opinion, but does support the sentence above.

How I hope we don’t do something stupid last minute. 14 22 28 is a good hand in a good draft either take all 3 or bundle for a higher pick and take 2. We did well this year but it’s not linear we are still only 3 years old. We need to keep bringing in good young talent as each year the pool will be stronger as the girls get full development pathways and play against a better standard coming through.
