I just did the ladder predictor - which I am hopeless at, but nonetheless I had some time to waste.
I thought I was pretty reasonable with my predictions, which isn't easy in such an unpredictable season and the only time I used the margin was to give every team playing WC 100 point win.
The finished product was I had us coming in 8th and Geelong coming 9th on the same wins with us ahead by 1.4%
Needless to say, in my opinion Friday night is playing for the season.

The pessmist in me says the season is a write-off. Too many injuries, and just not playing well at all.

The optimist in me says it's kinda a down year. Collingwood teeter on the edge every week, Port's bubble will eventually burst, Geelong and Melbourne seem pretty vunerable, Brisbane are rubbish during finals, St Kilda and Essendon hahaha...

A lot of water has to pass under the bridge before finals, and a lot can change. But if we get our shit together, we're definitely a team that can cause some damage.

I think I'd feel more optimistic if we'd had at least one win over a good side this year. It would give me some belief that the Swans team of the previous two years is still there enough to get themselves out of the rut.

If we beat Geelong I'll get optimistic. It'd be a MASSIVE result - bigger than thrashing the Eagles even if it's only by a point. Still think we'd need to win 6 of the following 8 to be sure of playing finals. If we lose to Geelong then it's a fair bit harder.

If we win all our remaining matches (which I absolutely DON'T see happening) then I reckon we'd finish top 4. So, our destiny is in our hands.

So we didn't rise to the occasion and get the win on Friday but the result should give us some heart that we can make a late run.

The positives:
We're only two games out of the top 8 with 8 rounds to go.
Crows and bombers sit 7th & 8th respectively. Crows play Bombers next round so win and we're only a game out of 8th spot
7 of our remaining 8 games are against teams immediately above us on the ladder. So if we're good enough, we'll win our way through.
Dee's play saints, so one of those teams will remain on 36 points
Dogs play pies so are a good chance of remaining on 36 points

Our push towards finals starts with the tigers on Thursday. Win and we move closer to that goal. Lose, and it's officially season over. Can't expect to win our way through beating teams above us if we can't get the job done against teams below us.

Destiny is in our hands.

Thank goodness, I was sick of finals being held over this club like something that was actually achiveable this year. The season was over when we lost the giants after being demolished by Geelong.

Let's just see the boys play, see some different positions and structures, let's have some fun ruining the final chances of other clubs.

Mathematically possible but we'd need to win all our games from now.

Therefore it's probably easier on all of us to expect to miss finals and just enjoy each remaining games for what they are.
