The talk of taking a small at pick two and using Kosi P as the measuring stick. In Kosi's draft, in hindsight, would anyone upgrade him to the use of pick two? I wouldn't think so.

I was going to disagree but the 2019 1st round was pretty good...

...glad we traded out of it

Not so sure of that. Charlie Curnow is only 194cm but has a big wingspan. Caddy looks to my eyes like he has a big wingspan so can play bigger perhaps.
I see we're at the 'Long Arms' stage of the Draft Thread, not long now to the 'Handspan Debate' and the 'He's Followed / Unfollowed us on Insta' party / freakout.

We need to fill a lot of gaps. The question I want someone to answer is Watson that far ahead of someone like Curtin that we just have to take him or is it line ball call between the two?

If it’s line ball I’m taking the key position player every day of the week. Some people might disagree, but to me if we don’t bring in elite talent that can become long term key position players, we are playing Russian Roulette in hoping that we pick a diamond in the rough for that position. So far our diamond in the rough strategy has been a massive fail, as we now are potentially going into an AFL season with Aiden Corr as the only current player in our list who is a KPD.

Watson could be a great player but to me our area of greatest concern is key position players and if there is one rated at the pointy end of the draft I would be making that my priority.
Not sure there is a wrong or right answer. Some might argue Curtin might want to return home for example. My preference I just think we need some flair (top small forward)and another tall forward as we have been lacking there for yrs. I do agree re our lack of height down back too is a major issue . I have no doubt we will be getting some key defenders too. But as I said earlier the order we do this is anyone’s guess.

Your constant bullying of a 17 year old kid, labelling him a midget, dwarf, comparing him to characters from TV shows/movies who have conditions leading them to be short is a disgrace.

You understand that there are some draftees who google themselves out of interest (some AFL players do the same) and there's a chance this kid reads your posts constantly making fun of his height? I wonder if you would constantly level these sorts of jokes to his face or whether you're empowered by anonimity behind a keyboard - either way it's an embarrassment and speaks to your character.

Not once have you posted about his actual performance or ability level - make comments and criticise that. Make comments about his ability and your worry about his height and how that relates to his performance as a footballer - no issues. But instead, it's making fun of his height continually with absolutely no discussions around what he can and/or can't do. You have gone out of your way over and over again to insult him specifically.

Pull your head in.

LOL

Is there anything to the TT to Gold Coast rumour? If so could net 3 of Curtain, Mckercher, Watson, O'Sullivan as well as Sanders. I love TT but could he be the sacrifice that needs to be made to gain access to Gold Coast first round pick?

Possibility that we buy/procure GC firt rounder.....maybe that gets thrown into the HR equation.....would be too much to give up though, 2 and 5 for 1?
Yeah, I wouldn't give up 2 and another top 10. If we could get GCs pick then I'd just go with a draft haul of McKercher, Curtin, Watson, Sanders, AReid and be happy.

There will be a real battle for GCs pick. Our path to it might unfortunately involve a certain trade request or trading out F1.

I'd be pretty happy with any two of Reid, McKercher, Curtin, Watson + getting Sanders via assistance.

I will argue about those 4, but I would ultimately be happy with any two.
Yeah think there’s clear tiers of prospects in the eyes of recruiters:

1: Reid
2: McKercher, Curtin, Watson*
*Caveat that for Watson it’s very dependent as talent is there but different recruiters will have different philosophies surrounding him
3: Duursma, O’Sullivan, Caddy, Sanders
4: Wilson, Murphy, Edwards

Etc etc

Not a lot of depth as well which is why 1. teams are upset about any potential Sanders pre-access and 2. it’s imperative we do everything we can to get Gold Coast’s pick

Next year I do think is very stacked for especially midfield talent so I personally would prefer a key position in the first round this year. But as of now I am on Team McKercher very heavily as the 2nd best prospect.

Yeah they clear his contract and they can front load some of his teammates so they don’t get in this hole again.

I don’t like clubs pull this shit tbh. When they signed him he was at the top of is game, one of my favourite defenders, he would have gotten good offers to go to another club but they enticed him to stay with a lucrative back ended contract, and now that it’s time for them to honour the deal, they want to offload him.

It’s not right. I know it’s a ruthless comp, but if he had known they’d do this, would he have signed the deal in the first place? GWS in particular are making a bad habit of this. Can’t be good for club culture.

If we don't draft Watson, who is going to take him?

This is my little mock draft...
1 - WC - Reid
2 - GC - Walter (bid)
3 - NM - McKercher
4 - NM - Curtin
5 - Haw - Duursma
6 - Melb - ???
7 - GC* - ???
8 - GWS - ???
9 - Ess - ???

I don't think that Melb take him and I'm not sure who they take. I don't know how many teams trade up for him at GCs pick. And GWS probably won't take him due to flight risk.

I really want that GC pick.

McKercher, Curtin, Watson, Sanders 😀

Essendon maybe? But then again I think they’d prefer to go a tall like O’Sullivan or hard runner like Darcy Wilson.

If we don’t take I could see him slipping down the to around pick 10. In that even we could look to trade the Port Pick up maybe with a future 2nd to get him?

Which would be a good result. We can dream.

Here is Connor O'Sullivan introducing himself - seems like he has a good head above his shoulders. I think he would be a great leader and would strengthen club culture.

We need that Gold Coast pick.

1. West Coast - Harley Reid
2. Gold Coast - Jed Walter
3. North Melbourne - Colby McKercher
4. North Melbourne - Daniel Curtin
5. Hawthorn - Zane Duursma
6. Melbourne - Nick Watson???
7. Gold Coast - Connor O'Sullivan/Nick Watson

I know he was talking about compo but I found it interesting when he said ‘we’re not trying to bend the rules, the rules are the rules’ re: McKay. But at the same time would like assistance with Sanders.

I’m just highlighting this because I’m not sure how much faith that gives regarding sanders

I think we just want to list him as an academy player as a starting point. He sounded a bit bemused that he's not already listed to our NGA academy ( "We put in an application years ago", "we're still waiting to hear back on the application", "we're aware of the rules of where you can and can't match").
I'm not so sure we'll get access to Sanders as the AFL won't want to break the rules on NGA access inside 40, as it would set a precedent when another club is down the bottom. However, we should be entitled to list him at the very least (even if we can't match inside 40) if he qualifies.
Even McGowan from The Age mentioned it's odd other clubs have their lists sent out in July and we have nobody listed as part of our academy.

Personally I think contracts should be split over the term equally - no ifs or buts.
