Don’t we have 2 future firsts to offer 26/27 plus also 2 second rounders next year? Ours and tigers? If a club with academy link ect looking to trade down surely we can use some of that capital to push back into top 5-10?
Our future firsts won't be worth much. We are expected to improve, but also the 2027 draft is the first Tassie one, our first pick in that draft could easily be in the twenties. Unless we lose a quality player, we are unlikely to be picking near the top of the draft for quite a while.

Are Tassie going to get access to a group of 17 yr olds a year ahead of their actual entry into the afl like gws did

I think it's already been flagged that Tasmania will be given draft picks but they will need to be traded for established players (similar to the 'priority picks' we were given that had to be traded, in our case for Logue and Tucker).

It's not going to be the same as GWS and GC where the draft was wrecked for everybody else, but on the down side, Tasmania will be able to recruit contracted players

I don’t want to sound like a bit of pessimist but do you think the club might have had a 2 way bet here with this years draft ?
1) Recruit FOS to cover for possibly LDU leaving ?
2) Give away our First round pick next year because we will easily get a first rounder back anyway if LDU goes?

Good business either way.

I'm still intrigued why we might've passed on Lalor had it flipped around.

Wrapt we got our #1 option anyway though. Similar to Cadman/Sheezel outcome.
The little things, King, the little things. I'm guessing because Finn can play anywhere where Sam can play deep forward or mid and the thing with Finn is apart from ruck he really can play anywhere and be just as damaging. You also have to remember that with that top 6 midfielders it actually comes down to percentages with what recruiters see/like/ are impressed/ not to impressed/ on who they choose, even if its really line ball, there will be "little things" that stand out to that recruiter.

Let me think about it, no. 1/ Luke is not going anywhere and the club knows that.
2/ A question to your question Ross, why wouldn't we have just kept our first rounder and in that scenario have 2 first rounders for next year?
The answer is because of the depth of this years draft we went BANG, BANG, BANG, got the players we were after and we now have the team to start winning, that's the first point of call then it will soon be turning to contending all the while the kids are getting games under their belt.

The draft will still be wrecked. Regardless of the conditions on those picks, everyone else's picks will get pushed back by them. If clubs want early picks they will have to give up players to Tassie for them.

Yes.

I think the club might've thought, what's better than one LDU? TWO....

Yes 100%, yet people were blasting Brady and Will for not trying or having no idea when in fact I did say pick 8 is where we should really go hard and then let it ride and see what pick we can get with Harry Armstrong, Matt Whitlock still on the table and that's exactly how it played out but no one wanted to trade out, club had certain players and didn't want to take the chance. Can tell you if we really like a player in next years draft, clubs will this time come calling if we offer something really good, depends if that player is a first round pick or second round pick , we have two future firsts to dangle for someone in the draft or even free agency, we have options.
Yep they certainly tried to get in as early as they could. We also offered the two F2's to get Jack Whitlock.
I'm sure we would've asked Tigers for 27 and 28, but they clearly wanted Sims, so a F2 it was.

Reading a recent AFL article its suggests you won't have to match a bid with a pick in the same round (what I think it should be) for a F/S or academy kid. You just pay slightly higher picks because the DVA makes picks after 54 worth nothing and the discount is only 10% now.

So potentially we could trade out that 2026 R1 and still figure out a way to match bids on McCartney and Harris in 2026 draft. But teams might struggle to move picks in from 2027 if Tassie compromises it somewhat.
I guess we could move our 2026 R1 into 2025 and then on night 2 move that Tigers 2025 R2 into 2026.
We may even be able to get a late 2026 R1 and 2025 R2 or 2026 R2 out of it. Plenty of options.
Whatever happens, it'll be interesting to see what we do. Even if we just keep the two 2nds and go for needs.

Tassie concessions will include early picks that they have to trade for experienced players so there will be good deals to be made.

Wonder which clubs will be given these goods deal. A certain Vic club not in Melb will be on top of the AFL's list.

I honestly don’t think so. I think our midfield depth is overstated and our lack of KPP is also overstated.
After TT left there was a big gap in the middle for us. Same with JHF. Phillips hasn’t knocked the door down either.
Currently our starting mids are LDU, Wardlaw and Sheez. Powell will rotate through consistently. Kerch will start to get time and Jy will start to loose time. In reserves we have Phillips who hasn’t knocked the door down. FOS will play across all 3 lines like Sheez and Kerch long term.

Key forwards we have Larkey, Darling (for 2-3 years), Matlock (in 2-4 years), Teakle and Finbar.
Key backs Logue, Corr (2-4 years left), Chom as swing, w.Dawson and KD.
Shape isn’t as bad as advertised. Slightly better if Finbar pays off. Also all young.

The sweet joy it will bring to see Mrs.Whitlock driving about in a nice Mazda around Easter time 2025...

It's just coincidental that Jack's terribly homesick. It's inhumane to keep twins apart.

I mean he'll have to bloody good so as we feel a bit even, but after Motlop and JHF, if there's anyone who owes us, it's them.
