I couldn't find the stat anywhere, so I went ahead and figured it out myself. I present to you - longest tenured coaches at one club:

KENNY HINKLEY - 242 GAMES 0 FLAG 0 GF

The only other coaches to coach more games at one club are..

713 - Jock McHale (16 gf 7 prem)
634 - Kevin Sheedy (7 gf 4 prem)
415 - Dick Reynolds (12 gf 4 prem)
390 - Alistair Clarkson (5 gf 4 prem)
355 - David Parkin (5 gf 3 prem)
333 - Allan Jeans (3 gf 1 prem)
310 - Norm Smith (8 gf 6 prem)
307 - Damien Hardwick (3 gf 3 prem)
305 - Chris Scott (3 gf 2 prem)
304 - Reg Hickey (4 gf 3 prem)
302 - John Longmire (4 gf 1 prem)
299 - John Kennedy (5 gf 3 prem)
286 - Collingwood Malthouse (5 gf 1 prem)
281 - Perce Bentley (3 gf 2 prem)
281 - John Worsfold (2 gf 1 prem)
273 - Mark Williams (2 gf 1 prem)
272 - Phonse Kyne (6 gf 2 prem)
260 - Mark Thompson (3 gf 2 prem)
258 - Frank Hughes (6 gf 4 prem)
248 - Tom Hafey (5 gf 4 prem)
243 - Eagles Malthouse (3 gf 2 prem)

110 grand finals
60 premierships

Every single one of them won at least a flag and coached at least 2 grand finals for their long tenures.

Here we have the bald greyhound killing loser about to overtake the eagles version of Malthouse and Tommy Hafey, who between them got 6 flags and coached 8 grand finals for their clubs.

Look at the list of names and it's basically a who's who of the best coaches in 100+ years of VFL/AFL. If donuts gets another 2 years that puts him up with the Collingwood version of Malthouse and John Kennedy. Lol.

First off, great stats.

Imagine if he signs a 3 year deal.

There is a possibility that he will be pushing 300 games without a GF appearance.

I literally need to watch a Luis Bunuel film just to temper the absurdity.

So after losing the first 3, with last night's effort Nick's now at 3-4 head to head with Kenny.

Vossy 2-0.

Master and his apprentices

Lost to Caretaker Camporeale (7-4 record) and Caretaker Barker (3-11 record) in 2015 too.

Already 0-3 against McRae en route to giving his 5-11 record against Topher Scott a nudge.

STORY OF TWO LADDERS

I want to show this again, because it's bonkers.

These are the AFL clubs' records against Top-4 and against the rest (from 2015 to 2022)

No one gets close to us in contrast. And the sample isn't small at all...

Nah GC are at least capable of making ruthless decisions.

It's not even ruthless, it's rational. If something isn't working, you get rid of it and try something else. You don't need to be "ruthless", you just need to be rational.

Its so funny when you look at the win %. The other massive loser coaches were hamstrung by lists that struggled to win 50% of games.

Kens had 11 years with lists capable of winning 60%+ and still cant even make a GF. Its almost difficult to imagine how someone could be that bad (which I guess is why its a record that will stand up over 100 years)

Accounting for inflation, Ken has probably made more money since 2013 than Oppenheimer ever did across his academic and government career.

Back to the Hinkley era stats...

Under Ken's guidance we have produced only one player of any substance over 195cm tall. Since 2013 when Ken started Todd Marshall is the only player over the 195cm mark to reach 96 games for Port. In the Hinkley era the most significant tall players, Dixon, Lycett, Ryder, Aliir have been imports.

Nothing against recruiting when required but it would be nice to develop a few of the tall the players we draft for a change. The scrap heap is enormous with names like Mason Shaw, Daniel Stewart, John Butcher, Jarred Redden, Mitchell Harvey, Logan Austin, Dougal Howard, Billy Frampton, Peter Ladhams on the list.

It looks like the trend will continue in 2023 as we go after Sweet, Ratugolea and Zerk-Thatcher and discard Sam Hayes and Brynn Teakle. If the tactic works OK we will take it but our inability to develop the tall players we draft is a damning statistic.

VFL/AFL coach who has coached the most games without reaching a Grand Final - Wallace was I believe at only one club, but Bill Stephen holds the record (across multiple clubs - Fitzroy and Essendon, 256 games in total)
No, Wallace was multiple clubs too. Ken already has a year and a half gap on the next longest serving coach at one club without a GF. Will be three and a half years by the time this contract is done.

Stephen had shite lists probably for most of his tenures. Which makes Ken stand out like dog's balls even more

Terry Wallace - made a PF with Bulldogs on 148 games and then Richmond for 99 games. 247 games overall.
Bill Stephen - 1st stint with Footscray 53 games, 2nd stint 115 games, Essendon 44 games, back to Footscray with 46 games but he only made a SF so technically Hinkley is above him as he's made a PF but obviously those Footscray teams would not have had the best lists. 258 games overall. Hinkley should catch him easily next year unless he makes the GF or wins it this year.

Tonight Hinkley - 248 games coached making a PF with one team, Port Adelaide Power.

I've been critical of Hinkley in terms of developing key talls especially KPD.

What makes it a bit more irritating is that the Crows are pretty good at it. Because Ken coaches a team philosophy over individual, players get away with not defending one on one and when they get a bag kicked on them it is the team's problem. Well, it's both.

Down at the Crows, they play hard, contested ball all over the ground and it seeps into their defensive players. In the first Showdown this year, the rookie Michelanney was super impressive, got smashed by one of our guys, and eventually came back on and played his tail off. Very impressive. The latest Showdown Hinge was super impressive and even commanding down back.

After our loss to Brisbane in the Finals, Aliir was unlucky enough to have a chat with 5AA after the game. He had Daniher kick 5 on him and he just trotted out essentially that it was a team problem and didn't even really think to question his own game. Such is the lack of accountability down at Alberton.

Ken is too matey with the players in my opinion. Well that is how it looks from the outside. As such standards of mediocrity seem to be acceptable. We won’t win a flag until he is gone. But hey let’s keep doing the same thing and hope things change. Sheesh.

We'll never stop stop stop, til Ken's top top top.

There's histr'y heeerre in the making.

Pawwpowaaa.
