Its a 3 year deal paid out over 5 years to lessen the burden on the salary cap....
So you are paying the balance of the first contract in the second one or when the coach has left, been sacked?

Interesting.

I am not sure too many aspiring head coaches would be happy with $250,000 for the first two years.

I know one has to take the long view, but …. gratification does have its limits.

There is no way ‘the club’ doesn’t come out the bad guy here - Simmo has too many mates in Melbourne still.

It’s already been decided.

Re. ‘Assistant Coaches need to know their fate in August!!!’ - our last game is 26 August and chances are we’ll know what is happening with Simpson before then.

Then it will come down to whether Simpson chucks the toys out and refuses to see off Hurn and Shuey, or if he takes what he would have to have known was a likely outcome like a man, and takes the reigns for the last time against the Crows.

Hodge is right about 1 thing though - Simpson won’t have any input on who is brought in as Assistants.

I think we all know why.

This is all ‘noise’ regardless - the media are vultures who love a ‘club in crisis’ - clear the decks and start playing competitive football again and they’ll go back to not giving a shit about us.

For all intents and purposes it done. So why wait?

This better not jeopardise pick 1. At least we can salvage something out of this season.

Should have been allowed one more year. But who knows anymore as to what is right.

Im not sure we should aspire to sack our next coach in our planning though. Plan for it for sure, but understand you might not need to it and work on the rewards of it

Most people would accept 250k knowing a big wad of cash is on the horizon. Fairly sure whoever takes it can survive on that for the first 2 years

Sacking the coach has to be a contingency though.

You can’t commit to a coach for 10 years even if they are not up the job.

Every coach, even experienced ones, are a risk.

Gut the club.

Spill the board.

New board, CEO, medical, head of football, coaching panel, recruitment.

Scorched earth.

There would be a cue a mile long to want into the richest club in the comp. Line them up, interview them all and get on with it.

So, it's still a 5 year coaching deal or am I missing something?

No, you see, if the new guy doesn’t work out we just sack him and then we’re paying him a million dollars a year plus we’re paying the new coach and … wait.

Signing Simpson up to a long term deal was clearly a mistake.

So let’s do that with the next guy as well. Five years right off the bat. What could possiblye go wrong?
Sam Mitchell was probably the most in demand assistant coach I can remember.

Was pretty much offered the Collingwood job, which forced Hawthorns hand with Clarko.

He was given the standard 3 year deal.

So we want to give Billy Big Bollocks a 5 year deal?

That would go down well.

People are reading too much into the fact the Worst has decided to go hunting for a scalp again.

The club didn’t care about the other four 100 point losses this season. Why is it just accepted that they’ve apparently changed their mind now, based on some “The board needs to make a decision” headlines?

I’d have thought if you’re gutting the coaching department, retaining the senior coach to maintain some stability would make sense. It also gives you the opportunity to see how he performs with a new coaching panel and his willingness to implement fresh ideas

If it works then great.

If it doesn’t then cut the senior coach with one less year of payout required

On Crunch Time which was posted earlier, Sam Edmund has come out and said all of the assistants coaches are going.

When Simmo asked to have a meeting to look at new ones, he was told he wasn't going to be involved in picking the news ones.

I'm not sure how reliable Edmund is, but if that's the case, Simmo is gone.

I reckon we'll get an announcement as early as Sunday.

I think there are a couple of things that have changed, and ironically it’s not really about results.

The club has suffered really significant brand damage this year. We had a home derby last week, and there was 51K in attendance. Not only was the number low, but the crowd has a bigger Freo flavour than any WC derby I could think of.

At one stage I clearly heard crowd booing Gaff as if it was a Freo home game.

Unlike last year, this years results have actually started to really damage the clubs brand and corporate appeal, which is affecting the clubs bottom line.

The club even made a loss in the fist 6 months of the financial year this year.

While Wear Coast had the resources and resilience to stand with Simmo, I think the club is now at critical point of no return.

Keep simmo would carry over to next year and we’d be in serious strife not just on field but off field too.

That's the question for me.

I don't understand how the Vic media can be out for Simmo's head all year, and now they start complaining that he deserves to be treated better, etc..

Oh wait, yes I can.
Yep

Barrett, Ralph and Co will come out and say "nobody likes to see anyone lose their job", when they've been pushing for it all year.

Yep. Screaming that he should be sacked all year then crying because they haven’t done it the right way, whatever that is

Imo, the right way would be to let him coach the season out then have a discussion about the best way forward with Simpson after R24

Then make a decision on what’s best for the club and advise him accordingly

Not sure what to make of the assistants discussion. If you’re intending to replace the senior coach then you’re wanting him involved in those discussions rather than finding assistants and then a new coach

I think there’s every likelihood no decision has been made but they are waiting for the season to end and are less certain than before if Simpson should be retained
